Press Release: WGC CA Championship
SEVEN OUT OF TOP TEN PLAY PRO V1 AT THE WGC-CA CHAMPIONSHIP
Titleist Pro V1 players, including champion Geoff Ogilvy, on top form at Doral
Pro V1 loyalist Geoff Ogilvy topped a leaderboard at the WGC-CA Championship that included seven Titleist golf ball players among the top 10 finishers, including full line Titleist players Steve Stricker, Zach Johnson and Adam Scott. Ogilvy finished one shot clear of Pro V1x player Vijay Singh while fellow Pro V1x players Graeme Storm and Nick O’Hern finished tied for sixth. Titleist not only featured prominently on the leaderboard as the Pro V1 continues to be the ball that the vast majority of tour pros trust above any other. Titleist was the most played golf ball at the WGC - CA Championship with 43 players, nearly four times that of the nearest competitor with 11.
Ogilvy took an extra day to fend off the world-class field and claim victory at the rain delayed event closing with a steady final round of 1-under 71 for a 17-under 271 total. The 2006 US Open Champion became just the third player to win multiple WGC events, having captured the Accenture Match Play Championship in 2006. In addition to relying upon the Pro V1 golf ball, Ogilvy also plays Vokey Design pitching (50) and sand (55) wedges and a Spin Milled lob (60) wedge, as well as a Scotty Cameron by Titleist prototype putter.
Titleist ambassadors Steve Stricker and Adam Scott were both using the new Titleist AP2 irons and for the second consecutive event, Stricker fired the best final round of the day. Stricker put the new AP2 irons in the bag for the first time for the final round of the PODS Championship and shot a 65, the best final round of the day. This week, playing his first full event with AP2 irons, he fired a final round-best 9-under 63 to finish T6.
Elsewhere, full line Titleist player Greg Kraft earned his first PGA Tour title with a victory at the inaugural Puerto Rico Open. Playing a set of new ZB Forged irons for the first time in competition, Kraft fired a 14-under 274 to edge two players, including Jerry Kelly (Pro V1x) by one shot. Kraft relied on Titleist from tee-to-green including; Pro V1x golf ball, 907D2 driver (8.5), 906F4 fairway metal (15.5), new ZB Forged irons (3-P), Vokey Design Spin Milled sand (54) and lob (60) wedges and Scotty Cameron Studio Select Newport 2 putter.
A further victory on the Asian Tour for Lin Wen-Tang (Pro V1x) saw Titleist's 2008 victory total advance to 31, more than four times the nearest competitor with 7, proving once again that the game’s elite continue to opt for the matchless performance of Titleist.
