Press Release: Martin Kaymer claims victory at the BMW International Open

HISTORIC HOME WIN FOR KAYMER AND TITLEIST

German Titleist player Martin Kaymer wins dramatic play-off at BMW International Open to claim victory on home soil.

Titleist ambassador Martin Kaymer earned his second career PGA European Tour title, and second of the season, when he captured the BMW International Open in dramatic fashion at Golfclub München Eichenried. The 23-year old posted a 15-under par total of 273 to take the tournament into extra time. Kaymer then birdied the first play-off hole to edge out fellow Titleist ball player Anders Hansen (Pro V1x).

The young German rising star became the first home-grown player to win the BMW International Open in the event’s 20 year history. The victory was another significant landmark for one of the European Tour’s hottest properties following on from his Rookie of the Year award in 2007 and his Abu Dhabi Golf Championship victory in January when he became the youngest German winner in European Tour history. Kaymer has now moved up to 30th on the Official World Golf Rankings and up to sixth in the Ryder Cup standings.

Titleist was the most played golf ball at the BMW International Open with 104 players, compared to 19 for the nearest competitor and at the top of the leaderboard, eight of the top ten and ties were playing either Pro V1 or Pro V1x. Kaymer's win marks the 14th for Titleist golf ball players on the 2008 PGA European Tour, nearly three times the nearest competitor with five.

Kaymer trusted Titleist equipment including Pro V1, new ZM Forged irons, PT 904F fairway metal and Vokey Design pitching, sand and lob wedges. The ZM Forged irons are a traditional compact muscle back design and one of four new irons successfully introduced by Titleist this season. Runner–up Hansen was using the new Titleist AP2 irons, a technical forging with contemporary looks and multi-metal construction.

Over in the US, Titleist ball players Jeff Sluman (Pro V1) and Jarrod Lyle (Pro V1x) won on the Champions Tour and Nationwide Tour respectively. Further victories in Canada for Jason Spears (Pro V1x) and Hyung Sung Kim (Pro V1) in Korea have boosted Titleist’s worldwide win tally to 79, compared to 22 for the nearest competitor.

The impressive Tour victory on home soil for Titleist player Martin Kaymer, with the new ZM forged irons, proves once again that the game’s elite continue to opt for the matchless performance of Titleist.
