Press Release: #1 ball at The Open Championship
TITLEIST TOPS THE OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP BALL COUNT FOR A STAGGERING 29TH CONSECUTIVE YEAR
Pro V1 players eclipse rivals at Royal Birkdale as Titleist is the #1 ball at The Open for an amazing 29th year in a row
Once again the majority of the world class field had one thing in common when they teed it up in the opening round of the 137th Open Championship at Royal Birkdale; they placed their trust in the superior performance of the legendary Titleist Pro V1 to negotiate Birkdale’s tight fairways, challenging greens and extremely testing weather conditions.
Titleist golf balls have continued to eclipse all others at this event and maintained the #1 position, since records began, for a remarkable 29 consecutive years. This year, 95 players (60.9%) in the field teed up at Royal Birkdale with either a Pro V1 or Pro V1x, just under four times as many as the nearest competitor with 24 players.

Equally, at the Final Open Qualifying events held at Hill Side, Southport & Ainsdale and West Lancashire, the Titleist ball count was very impressive with 88.5% of the cumulative fields opting to play Pro V1. Indeed, it was a similar story at the Regional Qualifying tournaments where 88.3% of the total field across 16 events played Pro V1.
The record-breaking Pro V1 family provides the game’s elite with a choice of two high performance golf balls to suit their game. The legendary Titleist Pro V1 provides improved launch conditions for longer distance while maintaining superior Drop-and-Stop™ performance into and around the green, while the Tour favourite Pro V1x delivers longer distance via slightly lower spin off of the driver, as well as lower spin on full iron and wedge shots for improved greenside control for higher swingspeed players.
Yet another Open where more players use Titleist balls than all the other brands combined provides further proof, that at the highest level, the game’s elite choose Titleist above all others.
Titleist: The #1 Ball in Golf.
