Press Release: Padraig Harrington Claims the PGA Championship with Titleist Pro V1

BACK-TO-BACK MAJOR VICTORIES FOR HARRINGTON WITH PRO V1 AS TITLEIST TOPS THE PGA CHAMPIONSHIP BALL COUNT

Pro V1 player Padraig Harrington becomes only the fourth player to win The Open Championship and PGA Championship in the same year as Titleist is the #1 ball once again

Padraig Harrington (Pro V1x) posted consecutive 4-under par 66's on the weekend staging a dramatic rally on the back nine to win the 90th PGA Championship at Oakland Hills. He becomes only the fourth player to win The Open Championship and PGA Championship in the same year. Harrington shot an incredible 32 on the back nine, just as he did to win the Open at Royal Birkdale last month. He took the lead with a 10-foot birdie putt on the par-3 17th, and then secured victory with a 15-foot par putt on the 72nd hole. The Irishman became the first player from Europe to win the PGA Championship since 1930 and has won three of the last six majors.

Harrington, who finished at 3-under 277, was two shots clear of Titleist brand ambassador Ben Curtis (Pro V1x, AP2 irons, 907D2 driver, 909F2 fairway metal, 585.H utility metals, Vokey Design approach and lob wedges, Scotty Cameron Studio Select Newport 2 putter) and Sergio Garcia. Curtis' second-place tie moved him up to No. 7 in the U.S. Ryder Cup standings and earned him a position on this year's team.

Titleist was the most played golf ball at the PGA Championship with 93 players, almost four times as many as the nearest competitor with 24. Titleist was also the top choice in the iron (39), wedge (139) and putter (58) categories.

Elsewhere, Scott Piercy (Pro V1) set a tournament record of 22-under 262 en route to a two-shot victory over three players at the Preferred Health Systems Wichita Open on the Nationwide Tour, to take Titleist’s worldwide wins for 2008 to 110, over four times as many as its nearest competitor with 25.

Another Major victory for Harrington and the legendary Pro V1, and the consistent flow of victories week in, week out, provide further proof that at the highest level the game’s elite choose Titleist above all others.

Titleist: The #1 Ball in Golf.
