FERNÁNDEZ-CASTAÑO IN MASTER SWITCH TO NEW TITLEIST 909 DRIVER
Titleist Brand Ambassador Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño praises the new Titleist 909D3 driver after it helps him to secure the British Masters title
An inspired decision to switch to the new Titleist 909D3 driver helped Titleist Brand Ambassador Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño capture the Quinn Insurance British Masters at The Belfry, after a thrilling play-off with defending champion Lee Westwood (Pro V1x). Fernandez-Castano, who started Sunday three shots behind the leaders, fired a bogey-free final round 67 to match Westwood at 12-under 276. The Spaniard then won the third play-off hole with a par to earn his fourth career European Tour title.
On the new addition to his bag, Fernández-Castaño said: “I’m been using a new Titleist driver this week and it’s been amazing.” He added: “I have to say it's probably the best victory of the four. I'm really happy and of course my main goal was to get into the last Volvo Masters in Valderrama, and I think I've done that. So I can't ask for any better than that.”
The result of extensive research at the Titleist Performance Institute and tour player feedback, the 909 series is the most comprehensive driver line-up in Titleist’s history. The new line-up features three different models packed with technological advancements. The 909 DComp, 909D2 and 909D3 are three drivers with modern, high performance, tour approved shapes each with a distinct, precisely positioned centre of gravity to provide distinct launch conditions and ball flight. The 909 drivers will be available to the European market in November 2008.
After only a few weeks on Tour, a whole host of players have already switched to the 909 drivers, including Adam Scott, Zach Johnson and Rory McIlroy, while Chez Reavie and Parker McLachlin have both recently claimed victories on the US PGA Tour with the 909 driver in the bag.
Aside from the 909D3 driver, Fernández-Castaño trusted Titleist equipment from tee-to-green at The Belfry including Pro V1, 690MB irons, Vokey Design pitching and sand wedges, Spin Milled lob wedge, Scotty Cameron Studio Select putter. Furthermore, Titleist was the most played golf ball at the Quinn Insurance British Masters with 100 players, over five times more than the nearest competitor with 18.
Elsewhere, Camilo Villegas (Pro V1) rallied from five strokes behind to win the TOUR Championship on the US PGA Tour after the first hole of a sudden death play-off with Sergio Garcia. On the Korean Tour, another sudden death play-off was required for Titleist Brand Ambassador Andrew Mckenzie (Pro V1x, 907D2 driver, 906F4 3-wood, 585H utility metals, 695MB irons, Vokey Design Spin Milled wedges, Scotty Cameron Red X putter) to defeat fellow Ambassador KeeJoon Song (Pro V1x, 907D2 driver, 906F4 3-wood, 695MB irons, Vokey Design Spin Milled wedges) to capture the SBS Samsung Open. These victories has taken Titleist’s worldwide wins to 135 for 2008, almost five times more than the nearest competitor.
A fourth Tour title for full line Titleist player Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño and his switch to the new Titleist 909 driver, coupled with the constant flow of victories for Pro V1 players prove once again that the game’s elite continue to opt for the matchless performance of Titleist.
