Press Release: Karlsson claims European Tour Order of Merit
KARLSSON TAKES EUROPE’S TOP SPOT WITH TITLEIST
Full line Titleist player Robert Karlsson becomes the first Swede to win the European Order of Merit
Titleist Ambassador Robert Karlsson won the much sought after Harry Vardon Trophy and in doing so became the first player from Sweden to win the European Order of Merit. The 39 year-old recorded victories at both the Mercedez-Benz Championship and the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, in addition to having ten top 10 finishes during the season. Showing incredible levels of consistency throughout the year, Karlsson trusted Titleist from tee-to-green to help him secure top spot, including Pro V1x, 905R driver, 909F3 fairway metals, ZM irons, Vokey Design approach wedge, Vokey Spin Milled sand, lob wedges, Scotty Cameron GSS putter.
“In the last three-and-a-half years I have taken myself to a new level and this is fantastic,” said Karlsson. “This is by far my greatest achievement in golf – I never thought I would be in this position so it’s just incredible. The Order of Merit is based over the whole season and the last three events before the Volvo Masters – where I finished first, first and third – were so important. I went from fifth or sixth in the Order of Merit to top and managed to stay there.”
“It is fantastic to see one of the game’s leading lights gain the recognition that his application merits,” said Ken Graham, Director UK Sales and European Marketing. “Robert has shown an amazing level of consistency throughout this year and it is truly fitting that he should finish the season at the top of the Order of Merit table. Everyone at Titleist is delighted by what he has achieved this season.”
Titleist ball players took the lion’s share of the top positions in the Order of Merit with the top three finishers, and six out of the top 10 players, trusting the #1 ball in golf. Former Order of Merit winners Padraig Harrington (Pro V1x) and Lee Westwood (Pro V1x) finished second and third respectively, with Titleist Ambassador Ross Fisher taking sixth place. Another Titleist Ambassador, Martin Kaymer along with Soren Kjeldsen were both top ten finishers, following their excellent performances at the Volvo Masters.
Kjeldsen (Pro V1) completed a wire-to-wire victory at the Volvo Masters following a final round 71 that gave him a two shot victory over Kaymer (Pro V1, 909F2 3-wood, 585H utility metal, ZM irons, Vokey Design pitching, sand and lob wedges) and Anthony Wall (Pro V1x) in the season’s finale at Valderrama.
Elsewhere, Ryan Palmer (Pro V1) won on the PGA Tour, while Candie Kung (Pro V1) collected her fourth LPGA Tour title. There were also victories for Andy Bean (Pro V1), Thomas Aiken (Pro V1x) and Michael Long (Pro V1x) on the Champions, South African and Australasian Tours respectively.
An impressive first European Order of Merit for Titleist Ambassador Robert Karlsson and the constant flow of victories for Pro V1 players around the world, prove once again that the game’s elite continue to opt for the matchless performance of Titleist.
