Press Release: Latest research highlights Titleist Pro V1's leading position in the 'Tour played' market
LATEST RESEARCH HIGHLIGHTS TITLEIST PRO V1’S LEADING POSITION IN THE ‘TOUR PLAYED’ MARKET
Iconic Titleist Pro V1 franchise continues to lead the way in the Tour ball category as new 2009 Pro V1 and Pro V1x hit the shelves in Europe
The legendary Titleist Pro V1 continues to command an impressive leadership position in the Tour Played golf ball market, leaving all other competitive brands some distance behind when it comes to consumer market share and popularity on Tour.
The Golf Datatech Golf Ball UK Retail Audit 2008 underlines the strength of Titleist’s flagship golf ball microbrand.
The key findings are as follows:
- Pro V1 and Pro V1x account for a staggering 72.1% of all tour played balls sold in the UK. The nearest competitor registering just 9.9%.
- In terms of pounds spent (value share) on tour balls, the Pro V1 family share is even higher accounting for 75.2% of all money spent on tour balls compared to just 9.1% for the nearest competitive brand.
- Such is the popularity of the Pro V1 that nearly a third of money spent on all categories of golf ball in the UK is spent on Pro V1 and Pro V1x and despite the premium price tag, the ProV1 is the best selling golf ball in the UK in terms of units sold with 13.4%.
2008 was also a strong year on tour for Titleist Pro V1 with the cumulative player count on the main tours around the world totaling 21,248 compared to just 3,302 for the nearest competitor. Titleist Pro V1 loyalists also led the win count with an impressive 164 tour victories compared to just 31 for the nearest competitor.
Early signs in 2009 suggest that Titleist’s golf ball market share success is likely to continue. The introduction of new 2009 versions of the Pro V1 and Pro V1x will write a new chapter in the legacy of the Pro V1 microbrand and look set to add to the success of this iconic golf ball franchise. Tour players all over the world are embracing the new improved models, refined to take golf ball performance to a whole new level. Notable winners on tour already include newly crowned WGC Accenture World Matchplay Champion Geoff Ogilvy (new 2009 Pro V1) and Pat Perez (new 2009 Pro V1x) following his maiden tour victory at the Bob Hope Classic.
The new 2009 Pro V1 features a newly reformulated and larger core that enhances its soft feel whilst generating longer distances. Durability is improved via new, high performance Urethane Elastomer cover formulation. The New 2009 Pro V1x is designed to optimise ball flight and increase driver distance through a new, speed enhancing Ionomeric casing layer that controls driver spin. Durability is again improved thanks to the new Urethane Elastomer cover.
The new 2009 Pro V1 and Pro V1x were introduced at the PGA Golf Trade show just 6 weeks ago and are just starting to hit the shelves in Europe.
As the market share figures prove it is not just on tour where the Pro V1 is the overwhelming favourite. Independent equipment surveys at leading elite amateur events in the UK reveal Pro V1 ball count shares exceeding 90% as more and more players place their trust in the superior performance of the Titleist Pro V1 and Pro V1x.
