Press Release: Strange win in China is familiar for Titleist

STRANGE WIN IN CHINA IS FAMILIAR FOR TITLEIST

Titleist Ambassador Scott Strange clinches Volvo China Open with Pro V1 and full bag of Titleist clubs

The Titleist Pro V1 family rose to the top of the leaderboard this weekend, as Scott Strange trusted the superior feel and control of the 2009 Pro V1 to claim victory in the Volvo China Open. Full line Titleist player Strange claimed his second European Tour title at Beijing CBD International Golf Club after firing a final round 4-under par 68, to finish on 8-under 280 and claim a one stroke win. Strange was joined at the top of the leaderboard by fellow Titleist brand ambassador Ashley Hall (Pro V1x) who followed his course record 65 on Saturday with a final round of 71 to finish on 6-under par 282 in a three way tie for third place.

Strange (2009 Pro V1, 909 D2 driver, 906F4 3-wood, 909H/585H hybrids, AP2 irons, Vokey Design Spin Milled sand and lob wedges, Scotty Cameron Red X putter) had started the final round four strokes off the pace, but three birdies in four holes on the back nine were enough to give Strange a one shot victory, and his second career title. Titleist was the most played ball in the Volvo China Open with 105 players (68% of the field) compared to 24 players for the nearest competitor.

Elsewhere, on the US PGA Tour, Brian Gay used the 2009 Pro V1 to break the scoring and winning margin records at the Verizon Heritage. Gay fired a final round 7-under par 64, for a 20-under total and incredible 10-stroke victory. Gay’s 10-shot winning margin and tournament total of 264 are records for the Verizon Heritage, as is his feat of recording only two bogeys in the 72 holes. Titleist was the most played golf ball at the Verizon Heritage with 88 players (67% of the field) compared with 16 players for the nearest competitor and was also the choice of those at the top of the leaderboard, as Gay was joined by six Titleist golf ball loyalists in the top ten, including each of the top four. The majority of the field also put their trust in the playability and performance of Titleist irons, Vokey design wedges and Scotty Cameron putters as they topped the count in each of these categories.

Wins for Strange and Gay underline the popularity on tour of the latest 2009 version of the legendary Pro V1 family and take Titleist to 42 worldwide golf ball wins in 2009, over four times more than the nearest competitor with 10. The New 2009 Pro V1 maximises distance, durability and performance through its newly reformulated and larger core that enhances its soft feel, but generates longer distances. Durability is improved via new, high performance Urethane Elastomer cover formulation. The New 2009 Pro V1x is designed to optimise ball flight and increase driver distance through a new, speed enhancing Ionomeric casing layer that controls driver spin. Durability is again improved thanks to the new Urethane Elastomer cover.

Victory for full line Titleist player, Strange and the constant flow of wins for Pro V1 and Pro V1x players worldwide prove that the world’s best players continue to opt for the matchless performance of Titleist golf balls.
