Press Release: Ogilvy defends SBS Championship at Titleist's newest brand ambassador
OGILVY DEFENDS SBS CHAMPIONSHIP AS TITLEIST’S NEWEST BRAND AMBASSADOR
‘It all starts with trust’ as Geoff Ogilvy places his faith in Titleist to claim the season opening SBS Championship for the second year in a row
As season openers go, this performance could not have been scripted any better. Trusting the Pro V1 golf ball, and for the first time, a plethora of Titleist equipment, Geoff Ogilvy successfully defended his SBS Championship on the Plantation Course at Kapalua. Ogilvy recorded a one shot margin of victory in an event which brought together only tournament winners from the 2009 season. Starting the day one stroke off the lead, Ogilvy closed a two shot deficit over the final ten holes to claim the title with a 6-under par 67 and a 22-under par total of 270. Displaying focus, determination and consistency, Ogilvy fired four consecutive rounds in the 60's for the second year in a row en route to his seventh career PGA Tour title. It marked another great start to a season for the #1 ball in golf and an even better one for Titleist's newest brand ambassador.
Titleist was the golf ball choice of more players than any other in the limited 28-man field with 15, three times the nearest competitor with five. Titleist was also number one in the wedge category with 19 players trusting Titleist Vokey Design Wedges.
Ogilvy’s bag in Hawaii featured a whole host of Titleist equipment including the Pro V1 golf ball, Titleist 909D3 driver (9.5), Titleist MB irons (3-9), Vokey Design Spin Milled C-C pitching (50), sand (55) and lob (60) wedges, and Scotty Cameron prototype putter.
Following his victory, Ogilvy commented, “I enjoyed the whole week. I played really well. This is the first time I've ever defended a golf tournament, which is pretty exciting. The first win of the year, first week with new golf clubs, brand new driver, brand new irons, perfect. I played good again.” … “I was one of those guys who grew up with Titleist. It’s sort of like coming home. Titleist made me a set of irons to my exact specifications and they came out exactly right.”
Geoff Ogilvy, trusting his Scotty Cameron prototype putter, led the field in Putting Average and playing his new Titleist 909D3 driver and new set of Titleist MB irons, was also among the Top 10 in Greens in Regulation (85%). Ogilvy wasn’t the only player in the field to impress with his 909 driver as fellow Titleist Brand Ambassador Steve Stricker recorded the longest drive of the event with his 909D3. Stricker recorded the mighty 424-yard drive during his second round at the 516-yard 7th hole.
Elsewhere, Titleist Brand Ambassador Jason Norris (Pro V1) captured the Australian PGA Tour's season-opening Victorian Open in Melbourne by two shots from fellow Pro V1 loyalist Chris Campbell. Titleist was the preferred choice of the majority of the field and among the top finishers in Australia, with 15 of the 17 players who finished among the Top 10 and ties trusting the legendary Titleist Pro V1 or Pro V1x.
An impressive defense of the season-opening SBS Championship for Geoff Ogilvy in his first week as a Titleist Brand Ambassador, coupled with a victory on the Australasian Tour opens Titleist’s 2010 worldwide win count in impressive fashion and is further proof that the game’s elite opt for the matchless performance of Titleist.
