Press Release: Ogilvy trusts Titleist for first Australian Open title
OGILVY TRUSTS TITLEIST FOR FIRST AUSTRALIAN OPEN TITLE
Titleist Brand Ambassador Geoff Ogilvy continues winning streak for Pro V1 and new 910 driver as Titleist loyalists top leaderboards around the world
Full line Titleist player Geoff Ogilvy claimed his second win of 2010 with victory on home soil in the Australian Open, to headline another multiple win weekend for the #1 Ball in Golf. Titleist brand ambassador Ogilvy trusted the legendary Pro V1 to finish four shots clear of the field at 19-under par, in a top-10 and ties that featured nine Titleist golf ball loyalists. As well as the Pro V1 ball, Ogilvy trusted the feel and playability of Titleist equipment throughout his bag, including the new 910D3 Driver, which features revolutionary independent loft and lie adjustability, 910F Fairways, Titleist MB irons, Vokey Design Spin Milled wedges, and Scotty Cameron Putter. Titleist was the overwhelming choice of ball at the Australian Open with 122 players, more than 13 times that of its nearest competitor with 9.
It was a similar story on the South African Tour, as World #1 Lee Westwood put his trust in the Pro V1x with an 8-shot victory in the Nedbank Golf Challenge at Sun City, in the process cementing his position as the World’s #1 player. Westwood led the tournament following a stunning second round of 64, propelling him into a lead he would not relinquish and the $1.25million first prize.
Sweden’s Maria Hjorth became the first player to win on the LPGA Tour with the New Pro V1x, leading a Titleist dominated leaderboard at the season-ending LPGA Tour Championship. Hjorth finished one-shot clear of third round leader Amy Yang (Pro V1), while fellow Pro V1 loyalists Cristie Kerr and In-Kyung Kim tied for 3rd. Rounding out the all Titleist top-6 were Na Yeon Choi (Pro V1x) and Laura Diaz (Pro V1) who tied for 5th, one shot further back. As a result, Choi claimed the 2010 Money List and the year’s lowest scoring average, Jiyai Shin (Pro V1) maintained her spot atop the world rankings, and Pro V1x loyalist Yani Tseng clinched LPGA player of the year, following her three win season that included major championships victories at the Kraft Nabisco Championship and Ricoh Women’s British Open.
Over on the Japan Tour, Titleist loyalist Hiroyuki Fujita became the first player to win on worldwide professional tours with the new Pro V1 with victory in the season-ending JT Cup. It was his second victory of the 2010 season and came by one shot over fellow Titleist player Toru Taniguchi (Pro V1x), despite a spectacular final-round 61 by the eventual runner-up. The win lifted Fujita to second place on the final money list, behind Titleist Brand Ambassador Kyung-Tae Kim (Pro V1x). Victories for Ogilvy, Westwood, Hjorth and Fujita take Titleist’s worldwide golf ball win count to 148, more than six times that of its nearest competitor with 24.
Meanwhile, full line Titleist player Rickie Fowler (Pro V1x) capped off an exceptional debut season when named 2010 PGA Tour Rookie of the Year, following a year that included seven top-10 finishes and two runner-ups performances that have lifted the 21 year-old Fowler to 25th in the Official Golf World Rankings. The award comes just one week after fellow full line Titleist Ambassador, 17 year-old Matteo Manassero was awarded Rookie of the Year honours on the European Tour.
A second victory of 2010 for Titleist Brand Ambassador Geoff Ogilvy, and multiple wins across worldwide professional tours for Pro V1 and Pro V1x players, continues to prove that the world’s best opt for the matchless performance of Titleist.
