Louis Oosthuizen, Jonathan Byrd and Paul Sheehan kick-start Titleist’s golf ball win count for 2011 trusting the Pro V1 franchise to top leaderboards around the world

 

2010 Open Champion Louis Oosthuizen added his national title to the Claret Jug he won in St. Andrews, trusting the feel and control of the Pro V1x to claim the Africa Open at East London Golf Club this weekend. Oosthuizen came through an all-Titleist golf ball play-off after tying with Chris Wood (Pro V1x) and Manuel Quiros (Pro V1x) on 16-under par, 276. On the PGA Tour Pro V1x loyalist Jonathan Byrd also came through an all-Titleist golf ball play-off, beating Robert Garrigus (Pro V1) to capture the season opening Hyundai Tournament of Champions at Kapalua, and quickly establish Titleist as the choice of champions in 2011.

Oosthuizen’s victory in South Africa is his first since he won his maiden Major championship in St. Andrews in July 2010, and catapults him to the top of the early 2011 Race to Dubai standings. Having started the final round tied for the lead, Oosthuizen fired a final round 70 and was joined at the top of the leaderboard joined by fellow Titleist golf ball loyalists Chris Wood and Manuel Quiros. Oosthuizen’s birdie three at the first extra hole was enough to seal victory and his third career European Tour title. As well as being the choice of the champion in South Africa, Titleist was also the overwhelming choice of the field with 117 players putting their trust in the #1 ball in golf, compared to 14 for the nearest competitor. The top of the leaderboard was also littered with Titleist golf ball loyalists with 13 of the players who finished amongst the top-10 and ties putting their trust in the precision and control of the legendary Pro V1 franchise.

On the PGA Tour, Titleist golf ball loyalist Jonathan Byrd continued his impressive play-off record, winning his second consecutive event in extra holes. Having tied for the lead with Pro V1 loyalist Robert Garrigus on 24-under par at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions, Byrd parred the first extra hole to secure his fifth PGA Tour victory and second in his last two starts having made a hole-in-one at the first extra hole to claim his last tournament of the 2010 season. Titleist was the overwhelming choice of the field with 18 players trusting the feel and control of the Pro V1 or Pro V1x in the winners only tournament, three times more than the nearest competitor. Titleist also topped the counts for iron sets, lob, sand and approach wedges and putters respectively.

Elsewhere, on the Australian Tour, Titleist Brand Ambassador Paul Sheehan (Pro V1x) topped a Titleist 1-2, finishing 2 shots ahead of fellow Titleist Brand Ambassador Matthew Griffin (Pro V1x) on 8-under par to claim the Victoria Open at Spring Valley Golf Club. Sheehan’s victory adds another title to the ever growing list of wins for the new 910 driver, after he trusted the control and stability of the 910D2 to top the leaderboard in Australia and continue the 910 series’ impressive performances across worldwide professional tours.
