Press Release: Titleist the choice of champions in 2011 as Wilson claims Sony Open
TITLEIST THE CHOICE OF CHAMPIONS IN 2011 AS WILSON CLAIMS SONY OPEN
Mark Wilson wins after marathon final day in Hawaii, while Titleist dominates in Australia with NEW Pro V1x
Titleist golf ball loyalist Mark Wilson claimed the first full field event of the 2011 PGA Tour season, trusting the feel and control of the Pro V1x to claim the Sony Open in Hawaii, after a marathon final day at Waialae Country Club in Honolulu. Wilson shot bogey free rounds of 65 and 67 in the final 36 holes on Sunday, including a birdie at the final hole to top a Titleist golf ball top-4 ahead of new Titleist Brand Ambassador Tim Clark (New Pro V1), Titleist golf ball loyalist Steve Marino (New Pro V1x) and Titleist Brand Ambassador Jimmy Walker (New Pro V1). Titleist was also the choice of the champion on the Australasia Tour, where Pro V1x loyalist James Nitties led a New Pro V1x 1-2-3, claiming the Cellarbrations Victorian PGA Championship.
Wilson’s success in Hawaii was his third PGA Tour career victory in only his fifth season on tour, and secures his place in the 2011 U.S. Masters at Augusta. His victory continues a winning start to the 2011 PGA Tour season for Titleist, following Jonathan Bryd’s (Pro V1x) victory at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions last week. Wilson’s 16-under par total proved his resolve despite the testing conditions, which resulted in a wash-out of Thursday’s opening round. With four consecutive rounds in the 60’s, Wilson displayed complete control of his golf ball. As well as topping the leaderboard in Hawaii, Titleist was also the overwhelming choice of the field at the Sony Open with 91 players putting their trust in the #1 ball in golf, compared to 14 for the nearest competitor.
Elsewhere, on the Australasian Tour, Titleist golf ball loyalist James Nitties joined the ever increasing list of players to win with the new Pro V1x, following his victory at the Cellarbrations Victorian PGA Championship. Nitties finished the 54-hole tournament at 18 under to par, topping an all-Titleist 1-2-3, ahead of full line Titleist players, Peter O’Malley (New Pro V1x) and Andrew Buckle (New Pro V1x). Titleist was the choice of a number of the top finishers in Australia, with 10 of the players finishing in the top-10 and ties trusting the legendary Pro V1 or Pro V1x for their success.
A third PGA Tour career victory for Pro V1x loyalist Mark Wilson, coupled with a New Pro V1x top three in Australia, continues to prove that the world’s best players opt for the matchless performance of Titleist for their success.
