Press Release: Donald trusts Titleist for record breaking WGC victory
DONALD TRUSTS TITLEIST FOR RECORD BREAKING WGC VICTORY
Luke Donald relies on the superior performance of the Pro V1x to take the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship title as Titleist golf ball loyalists win around the world
While the hail and snow falling in Arizona was unfamiliar this weekend, it was a familiar ball at the top of the leaderboard as Titleist golf ball loyalist Luke Donald claimed the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship. Donald was never behind in any of his six matches at Dove Mountain, trusting the feel and control of the legendary Pro V1x to reach the final in record breaking fashion; Donald required only 73 holes to come through his opening five matches and reach the final, breaking the previous record of 77 set in 2003. Donald was joined in the winners’ circle by a host of Titleist golf ball loyalists around the world this weekend, as the success of the Pro V1 franchise continues across worldwide professional tours.
Donald’s victory in Arizona is his third career PGA Tour title and sees him reach a career high #3 in the Official World Golf Rankings. His controlled and consistent display throughout the week landed him his first WGC event without ever going past the 17th green. Having played the fewest number of holes ever to reach the final, Donald maintained his stunning form in the championship match to record a 3 and 2 victory. Fellow Titleist golf ball loyalist Bubba Watson (Pro V1x) narrowly missed out on the championship match after being edged out on the final green in his semi-final but still recorded a fourth place finish to accompany his victory at the Farmers Insurance Open in January. Titleist was the overwhelming golf ball of choice in Arizona with 36 players, compared to just 11 for the nearest competitor. Titleist also topped the counts for hybrids, iron sets and sand, lob and approach wedges.
On the PGA Tour, Titleist golf ball loyalists once again reigned supreme as Johnson Wagner continued Titleist’s impressive record in the 2011 season, claiming the eighth win for Titleist golf ball players in the first nine events. Titleist brand ambassador Johnson Wagner came through an all-Titleist Pro V1x play-off, defeating Titleist golf ball loyalist Spencer Levin at the first extra hole to claim the Mayakoba Golf Classic. Both players fired four consecutive rounds in the 60’s and Wagner’s par at the first extra hole, following a bogey free final round 67, was enough to see him claim his second career PGA Tour title. Titleist was also the golf ball of choice at the Mayakoba Golf Classic with 88 players, more than five times the nearest competitor with 16.
Elsewhere, on the South African Tour, full line Titleist player George Coetzee (Pro V1x) posted a 27-under par total to claim the Telkon PGA Championship ahead of fellow Titleist brand ambassador Neil Scheitekat (Pro V1x). There were also all-Titleist top-5 leaderboards on the Nationwide Tour in the US and on the Australasian Tour, boosting Titleist’s 2011 worldwide golf ball win count to 19, compared to 6 for the nearest competitor.
A first World Golf Championship victory for Pro V1x loyalist Luke Donald, coupled with multiple wins around the world for Titleist golf ball loyalists, continues to prove that the world’s best players opt for the matchless performance of Titleist for their success.
