Press Release: Donaldson Delight At Maiden European Tour Victory With Titleist
Pro V1 loyalist Jamie Donaldson puts his trust in the #1 ball in golf to claim his first European Tour title and headline a four-win weekend for Titleist
Pro V1 loyalist Jamie Donaldson trusted Titleist to win the Irish Open this weekend, and claim his long awaited maiden European Tour title at Royal Portrush. Donaldson secured victory in his 255th European Tour start, posting an 18-under par, 270 total. The Welshman had previously recorded 32 top-10 finishes on Tour but finally broke through with a stunning final round 66, which saw him earn his maiden win by four shots in front of record breaking sell-out crowds in Northern Ireland. With victory, Donaldson joins the ever growing list of first time winners on the European Tour in 2012, becoming the seventh player to place their trust in the #1 ball in golf to record a maiden European Tour triumph in 2012.
Donaldson trusted the feel and control of the legendary Pro V1 to close with 5 birdies in his last 7 holes en route to his fourth consecutive round in the 60s and a comfortable four stroke margin of victory. Titleist Brand Ambassador Rafael Cabrera-Bello (Pro V1) and Pro V1x loyalist Anthony Wall were among the three players who finished in a tie for second. Cabrera-Bello trusted Titleist from tee-to-green to record yet another strong finish as he continues his most successful season to date on the European Tour. His equipment includes the Pro V1 golf ball, 910D3 driver, 910F.d and 910F fairway metals, MB irons, Vokey Design SM4 wedges, and Scotty Cameron Select Newport putter. Following his maiden win at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic, Cabrera-Bello has also enjoyed three top-5 finishes so far this season. As well as being the choice of the champion, eight of the top nine finishers and 11 of the top 15 relied upon the Titleist golf ball for their success at The Irish Open.
Elsewhere, it was a Titleist golf ball 1-2 on the Champions Tour, where Joe Daley (Pro V1) trusted the feel and control of Titleist to claim victory over Tom Lehman (Pro V1) at the Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship. Daley closed with a 68 en route to a 14-under par, 266 total, and a two-stroke margin of victory. On the newly named Web.com Tour, Peter Tomasulo (Pro V1x), in just his third start of the season, edged out David Lingmerth (Pro V1x) to win an all-Titleist playoff in the United Leasing Championship. Titleist was also the choice of the champion on the Canadian Tour, where Cory Renfrew (Pro V1x) won at the fourth hole of a weather-delayed play-off to take the Syncrude Boreal Open, after closing with a 9-under par, 63 on Sunday. These victories take Titleist’s 2012 worldwide golf ball win count to 88, compared to 12 for the nearest competitor.
A maiden European Tour title for Titleist golf ball loyalist Jamie Donaldson at the Irish Open, coupled with further victories around the world, continues to prove that the world’s best players opt for the performance excellence of Titleist for their success.
