The European Tour heads to the far east this week, to Blackstone Golf Club in South Korea for the Ballantine's Championship.
As has been the case for most Ballantine's Championships in recent memory, the weather will again play a role this week. Thick fog and heavy rain halted play in the first round, and also prevented the completion of today's second round.
Two Titleist Brand Ambassadors currently share the early lead. Wade Ormsby (Pro V1x), who earlier this month won the Asian Tour's Pansonic Open India, posted a 7-under 137 through the halfway mark to match the total of fellow Pro V1x loyalist Arnond "Bank" Vongvanij. Both players sit at 7-under 137.
Also playing well in defense of the title he captured last year is Titleist and FootJoy ambassador Bernd Wiesberger (Pro V1x). The Ballantine's Championship was one of two European Tour titles earned by the skilled Austrian in 2012 (his other win came at the Lyoness Open). Bernd comes into the event in fine form, having posted a T-5 finish at his last event, the Trophée Hassan II. He's giving no signs of surrendering the Ballantine's title easily, shooting 1-under 71 in his opening round and moving to minu-2 through 13 holes of his second round.
World No. 7 and Pro V1x loyalist Louis Oosthuizen is playing in his first Ballantine's Championship this week and the Blackstone layout apparently suits him. Louis currently sits at minus-4 with two holes in his first round left to complete on Friday.
Great news thus far for a number of Pro V1x loyalists.
