Just recently got my 712 AP2 irons from a fit in Carton House and am loving them but it looks like my Vokeys need to be replaced. I currently have them in 50 and 60 (old set i had had a sw ) with the standard Vokey shafts in them. The first question

Re: Wedge Question

Thanks very much for the reply

Re: Wedge Question

Hi Richard,

Great question re: wedges - it really is a question of feel. Some players prefer to keep the consistency of the shafts in their irons through their Vokey wedges, whereas others prefer a slightly softer feel in their Vokey wedges (usually because, more often than not, you are not playing full shots with your wedges). Hence the standard shaft in a Vokey wedge is an S200. If you have regular flex shafts in your irons, it may make sense to have those matched - or at least talk to your fitter / PGA pro to look at available options.

Regarding the lofts of your wedges, they can either be strengthened or weakened a degree (one degree in tour chrome / two degrees in oil can) to achieve your desired loft. For example, to get to 51 deg, you can either weaken a 50 deg or strengthen a 52 deg. When you strengthen or weaken the loft, however, you also alter the bounce - so weakening a 50 deg with 8 deg of bounce will actually give you a 51 deg with 9 deg of bounce. The same principles will ring true for the 57 deg - (either weaken a 56 deg or strengthen a 58 deg).

Hope this clarifies.
