  1. Is the M grind the same in SM5 as in SM4. I was fitted in Acushnet and dont wanna go get fitted again if all i have to do is have the SM5`s built to same loft, lie, etc.

  2. Hi Ryan,

This is a great question! Depending on the lofts you are currently playing here is what you should expect:

54 and 56 degree SM5's should be very similar to 54 and 56 degree SM4's, but SM5 has slightly more heel to toe radius for enhanced greenside versatility.

58 and 60 degree M grind SM5's have less bounce than 58 and 60 degree SM4's. In addition they possess more heel to toe radius and enhanced camber for versatility. If you like your current 58 or 60 you will want to compare the SM5 M grind against the K grind because the K will likely play most similar.

    Hi Chris,

Could you also compare the S Grinds between the two model years?

When you say the SM5 has slightly more heal to toe radius, does that go for the S grind as well? I think I noticed the heel come up more on the SM5 56-12 when I opened it up compared to my current SM4.

    Thanks in advance.

  4. Hi Spudstarch,

Within the SM4 line, S grind was not offered in 54 or 56 degree lofts--only 58 and 60. If we compare the S grind in those lofts to current SM5 the heel to toe radius is the same, but there is more bounce on SM5. The added bounce makes the wedge more playable in a wider range of conditions.

Assuming you are playing the high bounce SM4 56.11, which is an M grind, you might see the leading edge of an SM5 56.10 S rise slightly more than the SM4 56.11 when opening the face because the M has greater heel and trailing edge relief.

Ah, your assumptions are correct. I was trying to go off of memory. Thanks for clarifying.
