  1. I am looking to purchase a set of the 716 AP1s. Boy did I love hitting those. My club fitter is recommending a 0.5" increase to my shaft length but no other adjustments. He gave me the option to order the set with new shafts (an extra 0.5" longer) or to get extensions done at the pro shop. I have never had my clubs extended so i am wondering what things to keep in mind if I do get them extended. Looking forward to your advice!

  2. Order them half inch long. The shafts will have more consistency plus you won't have to pay to have the work done. When you can always custom order with your exact specs

I'd order them to spec rather than install extensions but that's just me.

My AP2's have a 2inch extension done by Titleist when I ordered the clubs. Our Titleist rep just put that on the order sheet. Works beautifully.

I have also made clubs in my spare time and I have to say that if you can have the extensions done at the factory you are better off. Having the extentions done by the pro shop will not affect the playability but personally original shafts cut at the factory to the requested length for my money is a better option.

    Joseph,

I am not entirely sure what the extensions entails. I can't believe though that this would be the preferred way to go. I have to believe that a 1-piece shaft would give the shaft more strength, more clubhead feel transmitted to the hands which is preferable to reduced feel, and would probably last longer that an "extension" due to greater structural integrity. I have the 716 AP1s with the KuroKage shaft which I love. They are lightweight but very strong due to the strands of nickel-titanium fibers impregnated within the graphite material that align along the shaft axially down the shaft. This additional reinforcement helps to reduce shaft weight, adds structural strength to the shaft as well as helps transmit the better feel down the shaft length to the hands than would a stock solid one material (homogenous) graphite shaft. I would recommend that you stick with the one piece shaft instead instead of an extension even though it may take a little longer to receive your clubs. I think it's worth the additional wait. I might add that I am not a clubfitter but my perspective is from being a mechanical engineer and scratch golfer for 35 years for what its' worth. You're going to love these clubs. Hope this helps.

    Best Wishes,

    DV

In my opinion (and based on my experience) I would suggest ordering them the proper length as opposed to adding extensions (plus it would be cheaper as you don't have to pay additional for extensions)
  8. In my completely amateur opinion, I would think the results would be similar with either of those routes, ultimately the club will be the length you need. The bonus of using extensions, is that they could be removed at a later date and increase your potential market for re-sale in a couple years when you move on to the latest and greatest.
  9. Thanks all! Appreciate the feedback and comments.
