This question can be for Golf Clubs or Club Fitting. I see this PW is 43 degrees, and there are 2 gap wedges between this PW and SW. Why? I asked this in another forum. Can there be something done to eliminate 2 gap wedges? Either bending the pw, or by shaft? Most PWs are 46. My current setup is 45 pw, 50 GW, and 55 and 59 S L wedges. I would love the AP1s, yet not having 2 gap wedges, then a 55/56 SW. Any input? Similary for an AP1, AP2 combo set, there will be a huge gap transitioning between the AP1 and AP2. Thanks Eddie

  2. Hi Eddie,

The first point I would emphasise, is that the loft on the golf club is only ever relevant to the distance gap it provides. With the right loft composition and wedge selection, every golfer can achieve those all important loft/yardage gaps. A custom fitted set of AP1's doesn't have to include both W1&W2, Vokey wedges can be utilised to provide the correct and preferable loft/yardage gaps.
I'd recommend seeking a trusted Titleist fitter to evaluate your loft/wedge requirements.
To add, one of the reasons AP1 lofts are taken down to 52degrees is to offer that player a more stable(higher MOI property) head as an alternative to a Vokey design wedge.

With regard to a split set of AP1/AP2 irons, the gaps again are only relevant to the yardage they produce. Typically, the point in the set at which you may want to seek more forgiveness would be 5i & above. With AP2 6i being 30degrees and AP1 5i at 25degrees, the 5 degree gap at this point in the set shouldn't necessarily provide a huge jump up in distance. This is of course dependant on your impact conditions.
Again there is no substitute for actually hitting the products for comparable data, that's the best test!

I hope this answer is of help.

This is what I hate most about getting new clubs...dialing in the yardages. A lot of marketing/engineering is dedicated towards playing up the distance advantages of new tech. But I want to hit my new short irons the same distances as I did my old ones. I don't have the time to devote to the practice needed to dial these in.
I originally wanted a split set of AP1 and 2's but the lofts and effective differences in distances in the head designs made it way too complicated to do so.
I scrapped that idea and went with a full set of ap1's. But now I need to figure out how to work in my 1 year old Voke without replacing them.
