I have the 714 AP1 irons, my son is a PGA Pro so I have tried the 716 ap1 the only difference is the 716 is a little longer because they at 2 degrees stronger than the 714 and the heads are a litter bigger which is a little more forgiving

I had the 714 and switched to the 716. No regrets but i will say getting fitted (I know you don't want to hear it) was a huge key. They fitted me for a different shaft and that has made a HUGE difference in my game...

I have played both and like the 716 AP1 better. Better look and feel. Just upgraded my two teenage boys from 714 AP1 to 716 AP1 (surprising them). Found a slightly used 716 AP1 with KK Graphite 65g Stiff at Golf Galaxy for the 14 year old. The XP 90 Shaft is a nice shaft. Good Luck ! Either way both great clubs. I think you will be happy if you switch.

I had the wrong shafts, so I upgraded to 716. It might be the shafts (I was fitted for) but I'm getting about 5 more yards and better height on short to mid irons to hold greens better. I wouldn't have upgraded if I felt good about the 614. I don't anticipate going to a 718 and likely not 720 short of face wear.

I do have similar experience with shaft being the key to longer distance. I change my 915D3 shaft from Speeder to Tour AD. My swing has always been the same but this change of shaft to Tour AD has added another 20 yards. My only regret is that I should have done it earlier.
