Looking for some advice here. I have a Titleist Thursday coming in a couple of weeks and looking to upgrade my irons. I am about an 8 hcp. I am having some trouble working the AP1's like I want but am able to work the AP2's and T-MB's just fine. I have not hit any of the T-MB's except for the 3 and 4 iron so am hoping that the rep will have the scoring clubs with him for the fitting. I am looking for 5-PW. I really like the looks of the T-MB's and prefer the look of a blade.

Can anyone here throw their experience my way regarding the upgrade to either club? Your help and advice is greatly appreciated, thank you in advance!

Very interesting topic, looking forward to some responses
  3. In June I received my T-MB 3i, and I have to say that it's freaking sweet! I read that you've already hit 3i and 4i of the T-MB line, so I can assume you know what I mean. TBH, I have not hit any of the scoring clubs, but I can assume that their construction are similar to the longer irons. Good luck with your Titleist Thursday sesh, I love them things :)

I'm no god's gift to playing but for me the AP2s just felt better when hitting them. So thats what I went with. Topline look is huge for me and the T-MBs in my mind were a bit more comfortable from that perspective.

I LOVED the look of the T-MBs and if they had felt as good as the AP2s I would've been all over them. BUT I love my AP2s. Without any extensive time on both sets I can't speak to the workability comparison though.
  5. I am around your same handicap (6). Just recently wen through a complete fitting. Was a really hard decision between the T-MB and 716 AP2 for me. The 716 AP2's were a bit longer (around 5 yards a club) and offered plenty of forgiveness on my mis-hits. The AP2 also generated more spin on the scoring clubs. These were the selling stats for me. Both had about the same "workability" levels. Hope this helps.
  6. Have a set of T-MB's in 2-7. I use my old 690's 8-pw. Have had them from last spring.Left handed. Got the 8 and 9 iron this winter to try. Also have a set of 710 AP2's that I mix in. The T-MB's have a high launch, high ball flight that works well in WA. in winter because of the wet weather. Not so good in the wind. They are very easy to hit, can work the ball at will and are fairly long compared to my other clubs. Only thing is they are not quite as soft feeling of the face because they are not forged. They are my winter/spring clubs because of the high flight. But the do work great and I think you will like them if you can get over the high price.

You can get either set 5-PW and can't go wrong especially if you're going to a Titleist Thursday! I have 716 AP2s and my 5i is bent to 26°. Basically when you get fit with the right shaft/head and grip you'll be able to hit any shot you can hit.

You will not go wrong with either choice. The T-MB irons are slightly less forgiving and launch a little higher for most people. The AP2 have a great feel, they are very workable and forgiving. Make sure to discuss with the fitter at the beginning of the session, and they will make sure you are in the right model for your game. Enjoy the experience and the new clubs.

Chris, I played the original AP2 and wanted to try the MB in the 716 but wasn't pleased with the consistency from my swing/lack of practice time so I started with the 4-5 in the T-MB. I really enjoyed the looks, forgiveness, and height so much I now play the full set. I think the numbers would be very similar performance wise that either set would be just fine. I don't have any issues working trajectory in the scoring clubs of the T-MB. I think the biggest no-go for some people has been the sound/feel. If your good with it and prefer the looks, then I think you'll enjoy the T-MB. Just note the lofts for wedge setup. I have the T-MB PW (45 deg) and a SM4 (50 deg) that I hit 125/105 so there's a decent gap there. I'd also do a dynamic fit on some T-MBs. I think they make 2 head types for the lie angles. 1 at standard and 1 at 2 deg upright. So you'd want to make sure to get the correct lie angle before ordering. Enjoy!
  10. 3 years ago I upgraded from cavity backs to the 714 AP2's. It took me half a season to figure them out but once I started grooving the ball I quickly went from about a 16 hdcp to just outside of single digits.

Thanks to everyone for your advice and responses. Yesterday, as luck would have it, I stopped at the local PGA Superstore and was amazed to see that they had a T-MB 7i in a demo. After about 2 hrs of several different shafts and also hitting the AP2's in many combinations, I think the T-MB's are the clubs for me. The T-MB's gave me 10mph faster ball speed off the face and an exceptional trajectory. I loved the higher launch and the club was very workable and also pretty forgiving after a lengthy session. The simulator numbers were clearly in favor of the T-MB for my swing.

I will still go to my Titleist Thursday appointment and hopefully hit the other clubs I need. There's nothing like seeing actual ball flight in real world conditions versus an indoor simulator.

Thanks again to all for your responses. I can't wait for my Thursday fitting with the rep and get my new irons on order!

I hate indoor simulators, makes me feel like I'm in a box. I am little closterphobic, hate hitting on a mat also. Always hit better off the grass.
  13. Can't sleep, waiting on Round 1 of the Masters so here I am. I am currently playing a set of 710 Ap2's, I play to about a 6 - 8 hdcp. Anyone know or play the difference from the 710's to the 716's? I love the irons I am playing but would like a little higher trajectory, my swing produces a low flight, product of growing up in the Texas wind. I really like the look of the T MB's and have been playing these AP2's for several years so if I have to spend a little more I can justify it. Are they way less forgiving than the AP2's? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
