Which one of these scenario's makes ya  more nuts :

    A) Hitting a perfect drive about 270 - 290 yards , then missing the green with a wedge

                or

    B)  Hitting an approach to about 5 feet , pin high and leaving the birdie putt 2 inches short.

I have at least one of each every round  ( I am sure some of you do too ) , I go with  B because I consider myself a better putter than Iron player but  these are a couple of things this great game throws at you that make me glad there is a 19th hole !!

    Play well all !!

My answer is "B" every single time... IMO, putting is the most important part of the game.  That's 1 to 3 strokes right there...  And to leave the putt short is a killer...  I would much rather go past it 1 to 2 feet then be 2" short...  That's tough...

    19th hole is a blessing...

Missing the birdie is more frustrating to me. In my opinion scoring is the most important part of the game besides having a good time. However, if much rather finish out a par on a good up and down rather than a 2 putt. Jack

  4. I feel you Andy! I do both of these so often it's ridiculous!.. The one that frustrates me more, I think, is messing up a beautiful drive with a bad second shot.. It's enough to drive me insane!

have to go with A on this one.  Just did it the other day.  Right side of fairway gap wedge in hand sliced it into the water for a bogey

I would have to go with A, nice drive down the middle, just a wedge in and ..... now have to short game it close to save par.

You missing right or left ? Most of my misses are to the left. It is always that tempo thing !

Scenario A for me. I'd much rather find the green and miss the putt, but still make par, than miss the green and pray I can get up and down.

neither....you are on the course.....the worst is having plans to play an early afternoon tee time and then your boss calls you in for a special database / analytical project that needs to be done by the end of the week. No golf for me........

I would hate missing a reasonable putt for a birdie!!!!!!!!!

Missing the Green with a Wedge is no fun.

I'll take easy pars all day long.

I go with "A" because, in my opinion, there is nothing worse than a wasted drive.  When I think about it, at least "B" is a par, disappointing, but a par.  Option "B" can end up as a bogey or worse depending on your short game.  When I am in the middle of the fairway, I expect to have option "B" as a possibility.

B is my vote. I don't know if I'm going to 1 or 2 putt from the approach wedge, so up and down is the same as a 2 putt. 4'10" and 2" is still 2 strokes.

I'd have to vote for missing a wedge.  like it or not putts will be missed but I expect to hit the green with a short iron from the fairway.  walking away with a par is never really a terrible thing.

Missing the green with a wedge after a good drive.

I don't have too many short putts for birdie.  My few made birdies are unexpected (20+ feet).

its A for me. the green is so big and the ball is so small. cant miss!

I think both can be equally frustrating. Any time you have an easy shot that you should be able to execute with your eyes closed but something goes awry it can be frustrating. The good news is you have an opportunity to make it up with a birdie on the next hole!

I have to go with B. I am a 9 to 11 handicap so I am only going to hit around 6 to 7 greens a round. I have to depend on getting up and down for par to shoot a decent score. There is nothing more frustrating than to hit a green and then 3 putt. That will wear on your game more than anything IMHO.

They are both maddening, and I do both as well. I think leaving the birdie put short is worse though. It is definitely the hardest for me to accept.

B every time Bro. At least its a par. For ME, I have to hit it 18" past the hole. I actually play with a guy that on a typical 480-500 yard Par 5 will hit at most an 8 iron, usually a 9 or wedge to the green. Misses 75% of the time.....LOL

    B is my choice.

Since I could never hit the ball that far of the tee this was easy to answer.

I do both quite often. Just this past weekend I drove the green on a par 4, with a reasonable put for eagle I left it short. To make things worse I left the birdie put on the edge, I had to walk away with par.

Mine would have to be A as it happens to me all the time.  I rarely ever three putt, so I know that if I could just get that dang second shot on the green, I have at least a par or better.

  24. B.

Missing a green, even on wedge, but having a chance to get up and down for par still keeps the round going. Leaving a simple birdie putt short feels like it short circuits a round.

Yea.. Missing the green... I'm a pretty good putter and I'd much rather chase birdies or 2 put pars all day. Ah but the Golf Gods love to throw both of these around!!! Love this game.. DT

I think you're looking at this wrong. Just a suggestion. Consider that you've had two types of opportunities. Compare that to putting for bogey or worse, being stuck behind a tree, ball lands in a divot etc. Then if and when you miss the putt tell yourself that you are giving yourself a chance to score.
