    Hey TT,

I am new to the Alpharetta GA area and would like to know what are some good public courses to play.  I will be playing St. Marlo this weekend.  Furthermore, what Country Club would you suggest to join.  I am looking in for a club that would be on the <$8K annually range.  Any suggestions would be highly appriciated.  Thank you!!

Lots of good courses in the Johns Creek area in Gwinnett County.  St Marlo is a fun track and if the azaleas are blooming it is beautiful too.  Marietta Country Club is really nice, but it is a bit of a hike from Alpheretta.  Woodmont is semi-private and is one of my favs when I used to live in ATL.  Trophy Club is a must play.  For "cheaper" options look at Bradshaw Farms and Towne Lake Hills in Woodstock.

    Hey Ben,

there is a lot of great golf around you. Not sure about the dues, but look into Cherokee C.C, Country Club of the South & TPC Sugarloaf. If your near Cobb County or Cherokee County depending on what side of Alpharetta you live on there are several public coarses. Woodmont, Towne Lake, City Club Marietta and many more. Welcome to the Metro and have a great golf season!

    Ben,

Welcome to the area!  In my opinion, you should definitely give a serious look at White Columns.  It is a great Tom Fazio design with swim, tennis and fitness facilities.  On top of that, you get member access into two other top-notch private clubs nearby, The Manor Golf and Country Club and Atlanta National Golf Club - two great courses in their own right.  Hit'em well!

Welcome to the area!  All the other have made great suggestions.  A couple of other good public courses if you're up for a bit of day trip are Fairways of Canton in Cherokee county, it's not very long, but tight, twisty, lots of elevation, with great rates and almost never crowded.  I've seen them send of singles on a Sunday morning.

Another good one is Lake Arrowhead in Waleska.  It's one of the most challenging tracks I've ever played.  I don't recommend playing it without a rangefinder.  You'll use every club in the bag.

    Mike B,

do you happen to know off the top of your head how much would White Columns cost?  They are part of Clubcorp which includes some really high end clubs.  I am not sure if it's in my budget.  Thank you for the input!!

    Ben L,

I am not sure what the current dues are at White Columns, but I am currently a member at another ClubCorp club and most of them are pretty reasonable . . . particularly with all the other clubs you get access to.  I would be happy to run it down for you, but it may be best to contact the Membership Director at White Columns directly, so you can get all your questions answered - her phone number is on their website.  Just let me know if I can help with anything.

    Thanks,

    Mike

Check into Chestatee Golf Club.  A little north of you in Dawsonville, but it is a good track and a great membership.

    Hi Ben,

I currently live in Cumming and play at Windermere GC. I have to agree with Mike B and say that White Columns, Atlanta National, and The Manor are the best in the local area. If you head a little north, there is Polo G&CC, which is also now ClubCorp. Another great course is called Rivermont GC in Johns Creek. They have a great course that is challenging (7100 yds) and they just changed from bent grass to Bermuda greens. If you want the best bang for your buck though, Windermere is the answer. Its only $235/month, and you get full memberships at Windermere and Olde Atlanta. Food and beverage are also 50% off there too.
