Interesting enough my story happened in Vail Colorado as well. I managed the pro shop at Eagle-Vail golf course back in the 1990s and late one afternoon a guy called asking for a teetime the next day. Typically we needed at least a weeks advance to be able to get someone in so calling the day before we were completely booked. The man begged and pleaded and asked if there was anything he can do as really he wanted to play this one hole more than anything because he had played our golf course once many years prior and has been telling his son about a specific part three that had a severe downhill drop off the mountain to the green. The tee boxes were on the side of the mountain the green was placed around 3-4 houses and there was a bunker or two around the green and that's pretty much all of the hole was but it was a beautiful hole with at least a 200+ foot drop off to the green from box, each box was higher up the mountain. Anyway, as I listened to him he said his son was with him and they were staying in Denver which is about an hour drive down I-70 and that he didn't care if he went out super early that morning or whenever he just wanted to show his son that hole. I explained to him if we did let him out early he may not be able to play the first 2-3 holes due to the wetness of the golf course at that time in the morning. He said he did not mind he would even skip the first few holes if need be and that he was more interested in playing this par 3 which I believe was hole 8 or 11. He said he wasn't much of a golfer but he had told his son so much about this beautiful hole and you would do anything now that his son was a teenager to be able to play a few holes specifically that hole since they were so close being in Denver. I went ahead and let him come out and play early that morning, the 1st out actually, and he even started on hole 3 to get ahead of anyone starting at the normal start times. I sent one of our cart guys out to check on him after about an hour and half or so and he was two holes before getting to that par 3 so I told our cart guy to stay with him and see how he does on that hole and take a picture for him with him and his son on the teebox and again on the green. Well it ended up it had to of been one of those moments in life that was meant to be because the guy took one swing, the ball bounced once and then straight to the bottom of the cup! Not only did he have a witness but we were able to send the ball to titlist with the story and they sent back a plaque with his ball and a case of balls commemorating the moment for him and his son. For me in the game of golf it's a moment I'll never forget and that I'll always cherish being a part of! Even though I've never had one myself I feel like I had a small part to do with that. I believe the guy was from Iowa so if anyone reading this happens to know this story or the man that made the hole-in-one please comment back as I would love to know if he's made any since then!
