Mr Séan Hughes

First ever hole in one in perfect surroundings - an Open qualifying course, playing with an ex-pro, hit a 4-iron of dreams 215yds into a half-club wind on the signature hole. Boom! - hit like a bullet, it was all over the pin; landed about a foot and a half short and rolled in. Was so far I couldn't really see it, but... to add to the occasion, it was witnessed by the Club Captain on the next tee box. Was a corporate golf day so was also the recipient of a lovely speech at the dinner that evening - including a nice bottle of Champagne and - unsurprisingly - nearest the pin award. The round of drinks could have cost best part of £800 but the Captain insisted I just buy a bottle of Irish Whiskey which duly get hammered - and I asked the other golfers to sign the bottle, so a great keepsake as well. The only slight cloud to my silver lining... the prize for a hole in one on the 14th the week before?... £40,000! Yes, £40,000. Still, was something I'll always remember and didn't detract at all!
