Vegas Trusts Pro V1 to Successfully Defend RBC Canadian Open Title

It was an all-Titleist golf ball playoff at the RBC Canadian Open where Jhonattan Vegas (Pro V1) topped Titleist Brand Ambassador Charley Hoffman (Pro V1) with a birdie on the first extra hole to successfully defend his title.

“It’s been a special day,” Vegas said after the win. “I knew that I had to shoot a good round today to have a chance to win again. I just came out with an aggressive mentality. When I started making a few birdies, I started feeling the same chills that I felt last year when I won, and I just knew that something good could happen if I kept that going.”

Both players finished regulation at 21-under 267, with Vegas firing a final round 7-under-par 65, and Hoffman a 4-under-par 68. Hoffman birdied both No. 16 and No. 18 to force the extra action.

In the playoff, Vegas drove into a fairway bunker but managed to hit a towering approach that clipped the front lip but still managed to fly on the green and roll just off the back edge of the putting surface. A simple chip and putt later and Vegas had secured the third PGA Tour title of his career with his birdie 4.

Vegas and Hoffman topped a leaderboard that featured all seven players who finished among the top 5 and ties relying upon a Titleist golf ball for their success.

Titleist Brand Ambassador Ian Poulter (Pro V1) raced up the leaderboard to finish solo 3rd, one shot out of the playoff. He fired a Sunday-best 8-under-par 64 at Glen Abbey Golf Club.

Now Vegas has his sights set squarely on the PGA Championship, where a strong showing could check off another goal - earning a spot on the International Team at the President’s Cup this September.

“You know what, it's always a lifetime dream to be part of some of those great teams,” the Venezuelan said. “Not that many guys can experience being on a Presidents Cup, and competing against, in my case, the American Team, which is a super strong team. Being part of that team and maybe having a chance to beat them for the first time in a long time would be awesome.”

Congratulations, Jhonattan!
