  1. Hey TT,

Going to be in San Jose, CA in early May for work and looking for suggestions on where to play on free days. Thinking Cinnabar, Poppy Ridge, and Half Moon Bay, but wondering if I'm missing any other gems.

    Thanks in advance, Roger

Half Moon Bay is worth the drive. The road out here is a trip!

A few good public tracks too, you might try Shoreline. Or take a drive out to Napa, play Silverado and then drink some nice wine. Make sure to eat at the Rutherford Grill.
  3. Pasatiempo. Take highway 17 south to Santa Cruz up in the mountains. I only played it once but is a great golf course

Personally I would skip HMB and play Wente if you're going to play Poppy Ridge. There's also Eagle Ridge a Johhny Miller design and if you have the time I would play Pasatiempo or drive down to Pebble and play Spyglass and Poppy Hills.

Drive down to Santa Cruz and play Pasatiempo. It is an Alister Mackenzie course. It is supposedly his favorite course, he lived on the 6th fairway. Pretty amazing considering all the great courses he designed including Augusta National and Cypress Point. Look up some pics and reviews online. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
  6. Thanks all for the suggestions. Looks like Pasatiempo should be added to the list.

    Appreciate it, TT!

Yup, another vote for Pasatiempo. Great Mackenzie course!

    Cinnabar is a great course.

I'd ditto Bruce and say Poppy HIlls, Spyglass, and Wente if you're going to the East Bay.

Cinnabar has three great 9s and if you are headed down to the Monterrey Peninsula try stopping at Seaside and play the Bayonette and the Black Horse - two great and challenging courses for a lot less cash than those on the Peninsula. Of course, the views are not quite as impressive.

If I had the whole day, I'd do a crack of dawn round at Spyglass and then an afternoon round at Pacific Grove (aka poor man's Pebble Beach) so you can watch the sunset as you play the back nine. Have a great trip!
