Lie Angle on SM7 Wedges

Sean Jaeger

Team Titleist,

I could use some help and advice. I was fitted for my entire Titleist Bag back in September of 2017 (917 Driver, 917 Fairway, 818 Hybrid, 718 CB Irons, and Vokey Wedges). At the time the wedges were SM6; I knew the SM7's were coming out this Spring, so I waited to take my fitting specs to place an order.

My irons are all 1 degree upright, which will help draw the ball a bit more. I plan on purchasing a 52, 56, and 60 in SM7. I plan to make my 52 degree wedge 1 degree upright. My question is: should I also make my 56 and 60 degree wedges 1 degree upright, or should I do 0.5 degree upright, or standard lie?

I do like to hit my wedges full swing (especially 52 and 56), the 60 degree is mostly 3/4 swing.

Thank you, Sean

I would make your all your wedges 1* upright like the irons.

Not a huge difference between the 6s and 7s, so if your fitting says to adjust, then adjust. If you're curious you could find a local shop hosting Titleist Thursdays and get fitted for the 7s.

    Free of charge too.

I would say only the fitting process could probably be more precise than what your thoughts are. I'm also getting close to my fitting schedule and have been communicating with my fitter. Wedges and its lie were one of things we talked about leading to the same thoughts you had. So if I were you, I'd spend a trip over to the fitting and see what the lie board or grass reads.

Get properly fit for your wedges, as well. I'm pretty stout with the wedges, they are 1 degree flatter than my irons.......That's just me.....

Concur with Edward K. Get properly fitted for the wedges, too, and don't assume the 1 degree upright is good across the board. If you go the the Vokey website, you can read about the need for a separate fitting for your wedges. Let your fitter fine tune the SM7s to your particular swing plane PLUS distances based upon degrees, soles and grinds.
