Tried the new AVX optic yellow yesterday. I was surprised by the additional distance. It was chilly here in southern California, 50 degrees when we teed off at 6:30am. The ball was on average about 10 yards further than the NXT Tour S and TP5 that I normally switch back and forth with. The feel off the driver was softer than the Pro V and NXT Tour S, but not as soft as the TP5. The feel off the irons was so soft and smooth, it was as soft as the TP5. The spin off the irons was perfect, not too much but enough to just stop the ball on the green when it hit. Off the driver the roll out was impressive compared to the NXT Tour S and TP5.

While I was impressed by the ball, the price seems a little high. It was priced $2 higher than the Pro V's. I hope the price comes down to a little higher than NXT Tour S. I would pay $39/$40 for them but I can't justify the $48 per dozen.

I really liked the ball and if price is no object it felt really good and performed, but like I mentioned I can't justify $4 per ball.

  2. I'm reading about the new AVX ball that is just being tested. I would love to try it out here in upstate N.Y. this fall. I have played the Pro v1 and x for many years. I've tried other balls but have found none that I like as much.

I bought a sleeve to try in the final round of a men's club tournament, in San Diego, CA today. $12/sleeve is expensive, but as an 8 index, I wanted to try them. I tried the yellow, as I normally play Chrome Soft TruVis Yellow/Black. I added 10/15 yards per drive, irons were 5/8 yards longer, and the short game control and putting feel was exception. I shot 75, and it could have been lower. I love the ball, hate the price:). Hopefully, Titleist can check their ego at the door and price this ball correctly, as Kirkland, Snell, TP5, and Chrome Soft are great balls, at significantly lower price.

  4. What do you know about this ball in terms of positioning to the current line? Thanks

  5. Anyone get to try these out? I'd love to hear some feedback!

    Hi John,
I had the pleasure of receiving a sleeve of test balls last month. I didn’t know until recently they were the AVX. I’m a 76 year old left handed golfer with a 12 handicap. I love this ball for a number of reasons: 1. I get 10-15 more yds than the competive ball I use; 2. I like the feel coming off my clubs; 3. I like the soft feel off my putter and lastly, it holds great on shots to the green. I took first place in my flight and first in putts the first time I used it. A club tournament on Dec 14, 2017, I took first place in my flight, first in putts (25) and had four birdies. I love this ball however, from what I’m seeing and hearing about the price, it’s going to be out of my price range.
  7. Best thing I've hit in a long time I'm a 9-11 hndcp. Getting 10-15 more driving yds ball feels great off the irons It will be a winner if they don't over price it.

They are at least 5-10 yes longer off my irons. Some longer off driver but not so much as off the irons. All in all for same price I think better than the Pro V1's.

I don't know much of this new ball that titleist is experimenting with but I was wondering if it would be available online? I like the idea of the ball and would love to try some out myself. But I don't live in the three states that they are going to be offering them in. It's another ball I'd love to see on the market! And if anyone can make a ball that performs like they're hoping then it is for sure titleist!

I got ONE sleeve of white ones off Ebay from someone for $17...a bit steep, but too curious to pass up. I live in Wisconsin and it was 45 degrees out when went and played with these. They didn't disappoint. VERY soft off the driver and a bit farther than the Pro V1 I've played all this past season. Hits off the wedge and chipping around the greens was exceptional. A friend of mine had some yellow ones...wasn't a fan of that...a bit weird hitting a yellow ball. If you are adventurous give it a try!

From what i read online and not sure how true it is, it's only going to be available in 3 states; California, Arizona and Florida. Sounds like a pilot test to see how it goes and the pricing will be close or similar to the ProVs.

I'm curious as well. Wondering if this will the be color ProV that everyone wanted....

GolfSpy sent out an email yesterday with info on the prototype AVX.

    Hi Chuck
Loved having you play with me in the Sea Pines Country Club Member-Guest. My input on the AVX ball is that it’s longer off the driver irons and putts great. I’m sold on the AVX
  15. This golf ball is also being sold at some pro shops in Colorado. I played this ball along with my partner on 12/2/17 at the Hyland Hills golf course in Westminster.

From what I read these balls sound interesting. I could see a lot of people playing this ball that currently play a prov1 or other soft ball.

I've learned that this ball is only going to be sold to people in California, Arizona and Florida...I'm guessing it's just a prototype ball for now. Be great to test a sleeve here in a Chicago but I understand why anyone would stay the hell away from the state of Illinois

If this is what it takes to get a urethane cover ball in amber from Titleist, I'm in. I've never had confidence in NXT-Tour-S, and DT Solo just doesn't hold greens for me. The work on the street is if it only cannibalizes Pro-V, it may not last. I would think that the soccer ball brand is already cannibalizing the market, so might as well keep some of the soft urethane market in house at a similar price point. One way or another I need an amber ball on cloudy days I'm playing as a single. Will have to wait to see if it hits the upper mid-west before I worry about it.

I was speaking to some members of the Titleist Ball Fitting team at our course yesterday. They are very curious to see how the ball does in these markets. They do expect the fact it's available in yellow to be a huge hit with a lot of players. It'll be their first premium ball available in yellow.

The AVX ball is a softer premium distance ball priced like the Pro V1's.
Hitting the retail markets in California, Arizona and Florida this October.
From what I understand the AVX is a test market ball.

This will definitely be an interesting development in the golf ball market. It sounds like this ball will be competing more with other manufacturers like TM and Cally. I also gather that this will be a ball for those that want a softer feel - compression ball with a urethane cover for better spin and control. I'm not sure though that it will be a good option if it is priced the same as the PRO V/X series.

Like some of the comments above, I will be switching to the high optic yellow golf ball due to my vision needs. I play the Pro V1 currently and would love to have an even softer ball option. I will try the new DT TruSoft, however, the AVX may be just what I am looking for.
  24. Tried the new Trusoft as well. AVX is much better. If I could make myself practice my handicap could drop to high single digits. At 66 I get to play the shorter tees. AVX is a great ball. I will only play Titlest....last 20 years

It would be nice if some Mid-West states would get picked for theses types of product testing once in a while....spread the love around!

I wonder if those attending the TT event @ TPC Sawgrass will get some of these balls to try out?
  28. If anyone gets a sleeve and wants feedback from the great state of Indiana please let me know! I will gladly pay for associated costs!!

How can I get a sleeve of the new AVX Balls to test here in Michigan before winter arrives?
Just tested the new DT Trusoft balls and seen an improvement over the previous model.
  32. Heading to FL in about a week and a half. Hopefully I can locate these and bring back a box or 3 to Nashville.
