  1. Would like to be sure of the correct shaft before I order a new 917 3 wood.

I am age 70, some flexibility issue. Handicap 10. 5' 7" tall. Club hear speed 85.

Any suggestions on which stock shaft would be best for me?

I would recommend going to a local fitting to have this done on site. Shaft selection is a huge factor that I wouldn't want to just guess at.

Anything I recommend would be a guess. You should see a qualified Titleist fitter in your area and work with him/her to identify which shaft is correct for you. Check out the Titleist Thursday link located under the FITTING top level menu to see if there are any events in your area. These are a great way to get fit correctly and it's free!!

Without going to see your local fitter it is really hard to get you to the perfect shaft. Now that the caveat is out of the way, I would get a very light shaft. Someplace near 50 grams. I would also look at either an A or L flex shaft.

The Diamara 50 or 60 would be where I would start with you in a fitting session.

Barry B I agree 100 % with the 19hole comment. You need a A flex shaft and the Diamana, UST Recoil F2, or Kuro Kage Black in a 50 gram class would be the way to start, Good luck.

    James,

I'm 79 with about the same driver swing speed as you and flexibility problems. I replaced my 910F 19 degree that has a Diamana firm flex 71 gram shaft this spring with a new 18 degree 917 F. My 917F has a Diamana LTD Red 60 regular flex shaft in it. I hit the ball higher, straighter, and longer with this shaft than I did with the previous one. You might want to try this shaft before you make a decision. I love this club and I think the shaft has a lot to do with it.

Titleist are offering a free club fitting service on Thursdays, I attended one last month, well worth it as they use Trackman to match a number of shafts, if you get to one of those its well worth it.

    Hi James,

First of all, God bless you! I hope I can still play at age 70!

If you can, try to make it to a Titleist Thursday event in your area. It's a free fitting with an expert fitter from Titleist! It's really a great experience.

    Thanks,
    Ben
