I love the spin but the visual aspect gives me the green light to go at it with the wedge. New wedges are just so nice and well..new, and I feel like I have to baby it. A nice broken in wedge hit a few times says to me...go ahead give me your best shot! I just love the feeling of confidence this Titleist stuff gives you!!!

Re: Vokey Wedges - Brand New or Broken In/Weathered?
Not sure if anyone feels or is thinking what I'm thinking about wedges. Don't get me wrong, I love new clubs throughout the bag but there is something about a broken in or weathered Vokey wedge. For some psychological reason, it just feels better to me and seems much more comfortable. When I obtained my Oil Can wedges, I decided to soak them in soda to change the appearance of the wedge to look slightly distressed and I loved them ever since.

Thoughts and ideas are very welcome!!! #Titleist !
Reminds me of a saying, "A knight in shining armor is a man who has never had his metal truly tested".

I like a little bit of wear on my wedges and irons. It shows me that they can handle the abuse that I am going to put on them. My lob wedge has this one particular battle scar on the sweet spot. It was from my first full round of 18 holes, my third round of golf ever. It was a short par four but I had managed to pull my approach shot into a 5 foot deep green side bunker. It wasn't the softest sand and there were plenty of pebbles. I opened up my lob wedge and accelerated through the shot. The ball landed soft and took the hard left-to right-break, rolling 8 feet down the super fast green, stopping just inches away for a tap in par save.

Now, whenever I look down at my wedge at address, that scar reminds me to commit to the shot and accelerate through without fear.

Re: Vokey Wedges - Brand New or Broken In/Weathered?

Wedges will wear out faster than any other club, so be careful with used. But with that said, there are some great deals out there for barely used wedges. I picked up 3 SM4s for less than the cost of one SM5, and you couldn't tell they had been even hit. Kep your options open, but keep in mind a used wedge will need to be replaced sooner.

Re: Vokey Wedges - Brand New or Broken In/Weathered?
If i could, i would replace my wedges every month. There is nothing like a new wedge!
I agree there's nothing like a new wedge but there is also something about a how a wedge that seems to have been fit a few times feels as well.

I notice that you play the MB 712. Did you pull the PW and add a 48 Vokey or just play stock and added a 52?

Currently, I am playing 695MB and thinking of pulling the PW and 5 wood to carry 4 Vokeys - 48, 52, 56, 60. In the 695MB the PW is 48 so the loft gapping would be seem to be optimal. On the other hand, I am contemplating switching to a newer MB line but the wedge is 47 instead of 48. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Re: Vokey Wedges - Brand New or Broken In/Weathered?

I love my oil can PW and raw black LW wedges well broken-in and weathered. However, my SW is chrome and when that wears out I replace it immediately. I guess my answer is it-depends.

Re: Vokey Wedges - Brand New or Broken In/Weathered?

If i could, i would replace my wedges every month.
