Seller was the first owner or the clubs and purchased the set directly from Titleist with upgraded grips through local sporting goods store. Same serial number on all clubs laser etched similar to the photo above on the left club with the smoother etching. Called Titleist and they verified the details of the club set. SO either they are authentic titleist clubs with smooth etching of the serial number on all clubs (I understand they put serial numbers on all clubs in a custom set) or its a VERY elaborate replica from a random guy that made himself way too easy to track down if he were trying to commit fraud. My money is on the former.

RE: Etching of serial numbers on hosels

Interesting topic. Years ago, I bought a used set of 755 irons, no serial number was on the #6 hosel. I remember asking the question back then and I forgot the entire answer thing, but what I seem tp remember was "these irons were demos for testing purposes provided to a PGA pro for testing way back when before their public release, and no serial numbers were put on those sets".

I was then thinking that I purchased counterfeits, so I took them into a store and compared them to a set they had on display and everything was identical between the 2 sets (markings, grooves, vibration chip, size, etc). So I didn't worry about it and they played beautifully.

Would be interested though if my answer was correct.

RE: Etching of serial numbers on hosels

I just bought a second hand 716 AP2's and my set has exactly the same "issue" as everyone here!

- Both 7 and 6 irons have serial numbers (that are different)
- Serial number is etched on 7 Iron (7 digit serial number)
- Serial number is lasered on 6 Iron (8 digit serial number)

Is this normal??? The set really does look genuine otherwise.. It came with Project X LZ 5.5 shafts.

Please Titleist Team, any help would be appreciated!!!!!

RE: Etching of serial numbers on hosels

Did anyone find the answer to this? I have the same dilemma. I purchase a Single 3 Iron from a golf shop, and then recently I purchased a 4-PW set on eBay. I assume the 3 iron was from a custom set since it has a SN, and the set I purchased on eBay only had the SN on the 6 iron. Very common, however the 3 Iron has a etched feeling to it, whereas the 6 iron SN has a smooth printed feeling to it, however its not printed. I actually tried to take it off lol.

What do you guys think?

RE: Etching of serial numbers on hosels

I would like to know this also, I just bought a used set and the 6 & 7 iron both have serials, both different, both different style etching.www.titleist.com/.../vvhbzr8p34cidc1hbezv

RE: Etching of serial numbers on hosels

That is a question for Titleist- I would e-mail customer service at bottom of web page.
