Actually Bill when you open the face of a metal wood the effective loft decreases when the head is returned back to square

when you are "opening" a wedge while its in play sure you can sit it on the ground to have more loft, however with a you can not actually open the face angle on an iron or wedge you would be changing loft, where as a metal wood you are changing the face angle.

im not sure how else to explain this other than showing you with a driver, just remember bending irons/wedge you change the loft, lie and bounce, and when bending metal woods you change the lie, face angle and EFFECTIVE loft

No it is no possible to actually change the loft of a metal wood head, (this is because the sole of a metal wood is long enough from front to back and will sit the same way on its sole no matter how you angle the shaft coming out of it, to actually change the loft of the club you would have to mill the face down) all the bending or SureFit Hosel adjustments are changing face angle that changes the effective loft of the driver (look at any of the tables and in small print below it says EFFECTIVE LOFT when face is returned square at impact

for every 1* open you make the face the effective loft decreases by .6* less. therefore the .75* increments that Titleist has been advertising means the face angle actually changes by 1.25* ( .75 x 1) / 6 = 1.25

therefore your question on if the stock driver is 9.5* at .5* open and you change it to 10.25* of EFFECTIVE LOFT then the face angle would become 0.5* - 1.25* = .75* closed

if this whole post was too much for everyone to take, just remember it is no possible to change the true loft of the face on a metal wood just the effective loft.

Hi Chris,

That gets to the heart of my question. The driver comes stock with a face angle of .5* open. If I took the 9.5* driver, increased the loft to 10.25*, woudl the face angle still be .5*? This is not the case with most adjustable drivers on the market.

It is possible to build club with 9.5* loft and a face angle of .5* open. It is also possible to build a club with 10.25* loft and a face angle of .5* open. Does the 910D2 essentially allow you to do that based on the SureFit hosel?

They are independent of one another, thus the two seperate rings, one for loft, one for lie. The only confusing part of your question is where it says ".5* open upon increasing loft." Remember when you open a clubface you effectively decrease loft, when you close it you add loft. Please consider that before choosing your setting.

You can adjust the lie angle without changing the face angle.
