Titleist Weekly Tour Highlights

PGA TOUR:

It was an all-Titleist Brand Ambassador playoff at the RSM Classic where Tyler Duncan topped Webb Simpson with a birdie on the second hole of a sudden death playoff.

It marked the first career PGA TOUR title for Duncan who, playing two groups ahead of Simpson, birdied three of the last four holes in regulation to set the clubhouse lead at 19-under 263.

Duncan tied for the Sunday-low of 5-under par 65, which included a 25-foot putt for birdie on the 72nd hole. He also posted the low round of the tournament with a 9-under par 61 on Friday.

Duncan topped a leaderboard that featured each of the top four finishers and eight of the top nine trusting Titleist golf balls. Sebastian Munoz (Pro V1), who won the Sanderson Farms Championship in September for his first PGA Tour title, finished solo third, one shot out of the playoff. Brendon Todd (Pro V1x), seeking his third straight PGA TOUR victory, took a two-shot lead into the final round, and finished alone in fourth, another two shots back.

Duncan’s win marks the eighth for Titleist golf ball players through the 11 official events that make up the Fall Wrap-Around portion of the 2019-20 PGA TOUR schedule. The nearest competitors have one (1).

Titleist also leads in victories in the irons category with five (5), is tied in putter wins with three (3), and also has three (3) driver wins.

NEW VOKEY DESIGN SM8 SUCCESS: The PGA TOUR launch of the NEW Vokey Design SM8 wedges was an overwhelming success, as 37 players combined to carry 102 SM8 wedges at the RSM Classic, the first week they were available to players.

It was also ‘one week – one win’ for the SM8’s, as RSM Classic champion Tyler Duncan carried NEW SM8 54.08 sand and 58.04L wedges en route to his first career PGA TOUR victory.

Fun Wedge Facts: The 102 SM8 wedges alone were 24 more than ALL of the wedges from the next closest brand. In total, there were 287 Vokey Design wedges in play (48 percent of the field), more than three times the nearest competitor (78) and more than the next EIGHT brands combined.

LPGA:

Sei Young Kim (Pro V1) captured the richest prize in women's golf history ($1.5 million) in dramatic fashion at the season-ending CME Group Tour Championship. Unknowingly tied for the lead on the final hole, Kim converted a winding 25-foot putt for birdie to finish one clear of Charley Hull (Pro V1x).

Hull was six shots behind going to the back nine and birdied five of her last seven holes, including the last three. A 12-foot birdie on the 18th gave her a 66 and a share of the lead before Kim’s heroics in the final group.

Only three shots separated the top five finishers – all Titleist golf ball players - as two players, including Danielle Kang (Pro V1x) tied for 3rd place, one shot behind Hull, while Brooke Henderson (Pro V1) finished solo 5th, another shot back.

Kim’s wire-to-wire win was her third of the year and the 10th of her LPGA Tour career.

Titleist golf ball players accounted for 26 wins this season – more than six times the nearest competitor (4).

JAPAN TOUR:

Shugo Imahira carded a 54-hole total of 10-under 203 to win Dunlop Phoenix by two shots over fellow Titleist Pro V1x player Jung-Gon Hwang. It marked Imahira’s second win of the season and his fourth career crown in five years on the JGTO. The final round was cancelled due to inclement weather on Sunday.

The win moved Imahira to 34th on the Official World Golf Ranking.

ASIAN TOUR:

Pavit Tangkamolprasert (Pro V1x) won the inaugural Sabah Masters in a playoff for his second title (2016 Macau Open) on the Asian Tour. The 30-year-old started the final round with a three-shot deficit but closed with a final round 6-under par 65 to finish in a four-way playoff that also included Pro V1 players Aman Raj and David Gleeson.

Tangkamolprasert closed out the playoff with a 15-yard chip-in birdie on the second hole for the victory. He lost in a playoff two weeks ago at the Thailand Open.

Ten of the 11 players who finished among the top 10 and ties relied upon Titleist golf balls for their success.

In addition to golf balls (68% of the field), Titleist was also the top choice among players in the hybrid (28%), iron (21%) and wedges (33%) categories.
