A 'Legal' Hole in One

It was a crisp morning, and our senior group was the first to tee off. Since I had to work later in the day at another golf course, I was glad to be out early. We had all the measuring tapes and markers in the cart with us, but I did not think I would be labeling my name with the 0'0" - "Hole in 1" notation on one of the par 3's. As we lined up for our shots on the Willowbrook's par 3, 116 yard #4, I switched to an 8 iron since there was a little wind coming at us. I had said that the ball needed to clear the first ridge of the green or it may roll back off for a difficult second shot. So, I struck it firmly, thinking it 'may have a chance'. Well, it flew up onto the front of the green, rolled several yards and dropped into the hole. We were all in shock! My mouth dropped as I then received numerous 'high fives'. When I went up to the hole it was still there, so I quickly retrieved it as I was having a photo moment. While I knew I contributed points to my team, I also knew the shot was very much lucky. I consider myself an average golfer, and I know many other 'good' golfers who have never had an ace. Maybe my hole in one was just my turn or perhaps it was the 'blind squirrel' found its acorn. However, I still am very thankful. ... Now, I have a 'legal' hole in one instead of saying I had an ace in a 'directional' hole marker on a par 5... which also is a good story.
