Two years ago I had the first ever hole in one on a newly opened hole over water. I used a Pro V1 and a 7 iron. This year on the first day that hole was open for play I used a Tour Soft and a 6 iron hybrid into the wind. Nice shot to the front of the green and it rolled into the hole. Our club has a mandatory hole in one insurance pool. I was excited and celebratory. After acknowledging that the drinks were on me, I was informed that the insurance pool went into effect on the arbitrarily chosen date of April 15. My hole in one was April 14.
