Michigan is an amazing place in the winter. It is known as the Winter Wonderland. For just a few days in January 2012 there was some unseasonably mild weather which prompted courses in the East Lansing area to open for play.
Late afternoon on January 11 I left my office, donned some cold weather gear and headed to Walnut Hills C.C. I grabbed the only available cart teed it up and played the first 3 holes alone. Poorly I might add. I then joined my friend, Bob Merando on the 4th hole, a par three up hill over water where the pin was tucked back left 185 yards away.
Bob had already hit before I got to the tee box. I didn't know he had hit two balls.I grabbed my Titleist ProV1 and my 3 Rescue, made a good pass at the ball and thought I had hit it long. When we got to the green there were two balls on the surface. Neither one was mine. I searched beyond the green to no avail then to my amazement and that of my playing partner found the ball in the bottom of the cup.
This was my first ever hole in one. Had I not teamed up with Bob my story couldn't have been validated. He took my picture and validated my score card. Not only was it incredible to be playing in Michigan on January 11, 2012 but to hit an Ace was beyond belief. More amazing is the fact the golf cart I had grabbed was #13. So much for myths. My front nine score was 40. I have enjoyed countless congratulations from my friends and family and must admit that as a seasoned golfer nothing has ever topped the joy of this event. The next day I drove in a blizzard to northern Michigan. To steal the marketing slogan from my great state, this truly was "Pure Michigan".
Thanks for allowing me this opportunity and location to tell my story. Thank you Titleist for a great product. Mike
