Anybody Can Do Anything Any Day

August 3, 2012, it was a foggy Cape Cod morning at Ballymeade Country Club in North Falmouth, Massachusetts. As I stepped up to the par 3 5th Hole I was determined to do well. See, I played the course the day before and at this same hole my sister and I caught up to a foursome playing in front of us and they motioned us to play through. My result was not good. I mishit the ball a couple of times and picked it up after 6 shots.
The score card read 121 yards from the red tees with a downhill green; I teed up my NXT Tour golf ball, took my 8 iron and gave a full swing. At first I was not sure if the ball would make it to the green as view of my ball flight was blocked by a sloping hill with thick rough. But then the ball appeared, bounced on the green and started to roll. Due to the foggy conditions I kept my eyes closely on the ball and watched it move up towards the back of the green where the pin was, then saw it hit the pin and go in the hole. I was in shock and immediately started screaming “I got a hole-in-one” while jumping up and down and hugging my sister. We made so much ruckus that the foursome playing behind us came running over to see what was going on.
As we made our way to the green I started to have my doubts. Was I seeing things? Did I just imagine that the ball went into the cup? As I ran onto the green one of the guys playing behind us made it to the cup before me and peered in. I held my breath and asked “is the ball in there”? He looked up, smiled and slowly gave me a thumbs-up! That is why I now truly believe that anybody can do anything any day.
