Club Championship Ace
By Ted M On 17 October 2011
With Fall just around the corner and another wonderful summer of golfing soon to be behind me, I entered my club championship with fond memories of the year. The day was bright and clear, warm really for this time of year and not a hint of a breeze to be found. Going out in the first group of five was welcomed because it would give me the opportunity to enjoy watching all of the groups come in for the day. Needless to say, the day was already great; good weather, great friends and the thoughts of another fantastic day on the course.
The first three holes were routine with nothing out of the ordinary. Our group came to the fourth hole; a par three, 176 yard straight ahead hole. Water down the right side with a bunker guarding the left side of the green. I had the honor of the tee and was feeling good. I teed my Titleist ProV1x in the middle of the markers and lined up my Titliest 962 DCI 7 Iron. The only thought I had was to take a controlled backswing. The contact was solid; flush in the middle of the club face as the ball flew high and straight. One of my partners said "it's right at it" and as we stood there in the quite of the day, we heard the click of the ball hitting the flagstick. At first, the sound didn't register with me until the guys said it was the ball hitting the stick. Everyone else hit and then we went to the hole. Instinctively I grabbed my putter and then put it back, not wanting to jinx what could be a magical moment. Walking to the hole I could see one of my playing partners shot on the green and no other. As I approached the hole, I could make out what looked like a crater near the cup and then the reality of the moment was there. My ball had caught the edge of the cup on the fly, striking the flagtick and settling at the bottom of the cup. Everyone went crazy with excitement and I had my first ace! The group behind us came up and congratulated me as well. The rest of the round was that much better knowing what I had done and the bar tab was well worth the experience.
Thanks to all of the guys from GAGL golf club, Lincoln Hills Golf Course and of course the Titleist Team for making this happen.
Sincerely,
Ted Miller
