Dark, smoky day

I was playing with my wife on a summer day in east Central Florida, near the Gulf Coast. It was few years back when the Okefenokee Swamp in south Georgia was on fire. The prevailing wind is from the west there, so most of the time during the fire the smoke blew out to the Atlantic. On this day, however, the wind was from the east, and was causing the visibility to be only about 100 yards at 2:00 PM! I lined up my shot on a 157-yard par three, hit it well, and off it went only to disappear in the smoke. When we approached the green, my ball was nowhere to be seen. Since I knew I hit it well, I looked for it to maybe be long, but it was not there. We then looked, jokingly, in the hole, and there it was! It was my second, and sadly, my last, so far. When we got in the cart, my wife, who was keeping score, said, "You know, a 'one' really helps your score!" That might be the understatement of the day!
