First Ace!

A couple times a week a self employed buddy of mine and I walk 7 holes at the local club we both belong to. We walk 7 because it is quick and brings us out at the clubhouse where we then take the lunch special back to our respective offices to eat.

Today he called and I wasnt really feeling it but reluctantly decided to meet him.

Started off with a bird on the par 4 first, bogeyed 2, then came to the short par 3 3rd over water. It's usually playing 140ish and is a bit uphill and usually into the wind. I usually hit 8 or 7 depending on wind. Today the tees were up and the flag appeared to be towards the front but it's hard to tell being a bit uphill exactly where it's at without shooting the flag with a range finder which I don't have.

As the wind was not blowing today and it looked short, I took 9 iron of my z945 and took dead aim. I flushed the shot and it was on the stick the whole way. Usually shots near the front of the green kick left towards the natural slope to where the creek is. This one kicked straight forward and both of us thought we heard it rattle the pin. Although we couldn't see it.

As we walked around the pond and up the rise we saw no ball on the green or anywhere else except for his yellow srxn that he'd barely carried the pond with. I was pretty sure it was in the cup by now but still disbelieving. He made me wait to check the hole until after he'd hit his recovery shot onto the green which seemed to take an hour.

Finally I got up to the hole and didn't see it at first glance, started feeling let down until I got right over it and there it was nestled between the stick and cup on my side! My first ace!!!

I was still 2 under until I bogeyed 6 with a careless 3 putt. Par on 7. So 1 under and hoping to beat my best ever 9 hole score of 34. The last two holes are par 5s which offer a solid chance at birdie with a good drive. Made bird on 8 and was 2 under again. Hit a good drive on 9 leaving 210 in. Pushed the U45 right... it hit cart path pin high and landed 20 feet into the rough and left me no green to work with. Flopped one up which ran right past the pin and settled 5-6 feet above the pin, and I looked the putt over, knowing it would give me that coveted 33.

My read from below the hole really made me think it would die right so I aimed at the left edge and made a smooth confident stroke. It burned the left edge and didn't move a millimeter off the line. :( Will have to settle for my first ace and a tie of my career best 9 today. :) and I almost didn't even go!!!
