First Hole In One
By Stephen E On 7 July 2012
It was the annual Red White and Blue Tournament at our course. Hitting from the Blue tees on hole number 4, a 176 yard par 3 downhill. Hardly ever hit the green on this hole. I had the honors having made par on the previous hole. Phil McDougall was in the process of calling the clubhouse to exchange his cart because of a defective brake and I had to wait for him to get off the phone. Have hit a 5 or 6 iron on this hole many times and usually miss the free, although one time when playing alone I had put the ball 6 inches from the hole. Sure glad I did not make an unwitnessed hole in one that day!
I have been trying to calm my swing down lately and carefully place the ball in my stance to get my ball to fly straight. I accomplished my goal lf a controlled swing and hit the ball solidly. As I and Phil and Karen McDougall and Kevin Depasse watched the flight of the ball it was straight and long and headed just above the pin. It landed softly and then trickled ever so slowly forward and to the right with the slope of the green only to fall gently into the hole. All pandemonium broke lose on the tee. It wa my first hole in one and the first hole in one for which my playing partners ahd ever been present. The rest of fthe tournament was somewhat anticlimactic but I di score 7 strokes under my handicap to finish one stroke out of the money.
