Gateway National Hole In One
By bbakerlive On 14 July 2017
High school golf helped forge a relationship with one of my best friends and biggest competitors Luke Kolquist. We had a chance to get together for a quick afternoon round when our schedules lined up this past May. Luke lives and works in Indianapolis and I'm working in St. Louis so our time on the course is limited. We booked a time at my favorite public spot in St. Louis Gateway National Golf Course. I had felt great warming up on the range and still found myself level par on the 14th hole. The tees on the 14th were set back a bit and the rangefinder read 206 to the stick. I had come up short with a 5 iron the last few rounds but I grabbed it anyway. When the ball was in the air Luke yelled out, "That's going in..." sure enough it landed on the front edge, rolled and hit the stick. We could hear it from the tee box! I'm a 3 handicap golfer with many rounds under my belt but that was the first hole in one either of us had had. I couldn't imagine a better pairing and I'll always have his attest signature displayed proudly on my wall.
