hole in one

On December 5, 2015 I scored my first hole in one after 40 years of playing this great game. It happened on the 158 yard par three 11th hole at the Links At Outlook Golf Course in South Berwick, Maine. The fact that we even had an opportunity to play golf in December in Maine is one thing. But, to go out and play on an exceptionally warm day; 45 degrees and sunny with a steady 8-10 mile per hour northwest breeze is totally another thing. At 12:48 pm I hit a Titleist Velocity ball with my 6 iron directly into the wind and a very bright sun shine. I watched the ball fly high and directly towards the pin location but lost sight of it as it neared the green. Andy Rowe, my playing partner, asked, "how did you do"? My response was, "It was hit high and straight at the pin. I didn't see it land but it should be close!" When we arrived at the green neither of us could see the ball anywhere on the surface of the green. My first thought was since the pin was positioned at the far end of the green I must have hit it long. However, after searching the area behind the green for several minutes we walked over and checked the hole. There it was at the bottom of the cup. Yup, I didn't actually see it go in the hole but, it still feels great knowing that I finally accomplished the feat!!
