We(our foursome of John Lauer,Doug Koplien, Bruce Stickle, and Dan Stramiello) were playing in the Plantation Mens Golf Asssociation Ringer Event. Our Ringer Event is a two man best ball competition. The best ball score played on the first day can be improved on the second day for a best ball score for two days.
We(John lauer and Bruce Stickle) are in Flight two and playing against of a field 12 teams one of which is Doug Koplien and Dan stramiello. After the first day the Koplien team was in first place with 59 net, we were in 4th with 63 net. The second day we were gaining on them and were one back after 16 holes.
Our second to last hole was the 7th on the Panther. It had threatened rain all morning and we could hear thunder in the distance, we were hoping to finish before the rain came. It was gusting 15 to 20 mph on the 7th, luckily we were teeing off down wind. It all gets fuzzy about now, I can't remember who teed off first but when my turn came I choose a 5 iron because of the wind. It was a high strait shot that hit 10 feet infront of the pin and just rolled right in.
I saw it go in and turned around to ask my partner if it realy went in. He said he didn't see it anywere on the green, that is when he said I jumped 15 feet high( I think that is a stretch since I am 63) and started yelling. I wanted to run up and look in the hole, but golf being a gentlemans game kept me from it.
My knees were shaky when I peeked into the hole and there was my Pro V1 with the green line on it in the hole. What a thrill, my second hole in one, my first came whe I was 16, was no big deal didn't even inform the club pro. We went on to finish 3rd in the Tournament with a net 55, gross 71. I never thought I would get another one, the thrill is what takes us back to golf even when we have bad days.
