Howling winds

The winds were howling yesterday (10/18/2016), but, with the temperature in the mid-70's in upstate NY, there was no way a paltry wind storm was going to keep us from an October round of golf. We headed out to Arrowhead Golf Course in Akron (20 miles outside of Buffalo, NY) with a 9:00 tee time. Our threesome marveled as our normal tee shots picked up much needed yardage on the down wind holes and seemed to hang in suspended animation when we were forced to hit into the wall of wind on the opposite direction holes. In all honesty, it was kind of fun trying to navigate our way around the course. As we approached the 16th hole the wind was directly into our faces. The tee boxes had been moved up to about 165 yards and the flag was on the upper level of this two-tiered green. I took out a 4 hybrid and absolutely flushed it. As soon as the ball left the club head, I knew it was good. It was headed just left of the flag with a fierce determination. Since there was no way to see the ball once it arrived on the elevated surface, I was surprised when I walked up to the green and the ball was nowhere to be seen. I looked in the trap just off the right edge and the rough on the side and behind the green and no ball was to be found. Out of habit, I wandered over to the hole just in case and lo and behold there was my ball sitting snugly in the bottom of the cup. This was my fourth career hole-in-one, but, all-in-all absolutely the most unexpected.
