I'm 52 years-old, and having played the game for 43 years without a hole-in-one, I had begun to doubt whether I'd ever have one. I have lots of friends who have made them. Some are very good golfers. I must admit, however, that the holes-in-one made by my friends who struggle to break 100 really got to me.
Finally on Saturday, August 13, 2011, my waiting came to an end. Playing with one of my best friends, Ed Bowles, and two of his good friends Pat and Carl, we came to the 213-yard 6th hole at The Golf Club of McKinney. Without checking the distance with range finder, I grabbed my 5-wood and hit a perfect little 5 or 6-yard draw. The ball landed, took one hop, and I lost sight of it. I thought it had gone over the green. Ed said he thought it was on a shelf behind where the hole was cut. As we arrived at the green, my ball wasn't visible. Pat walked to the hole, pointed to it and said what I was hoping to hear, "There it is." We had a great celebration together.
That Pro V1 7 will be in a special place for a long time to come.
Until the next hole-in-one!
