On May Day, I played with three close golf buddies in a charity scramble. While we had a beautiful spring-like day with almost no wind and otherwise perfect conditions, we finished in the middle of the pack. The highlight of our day, though, was the 3rd hole, the next to the last hole for us, having started on the 5th hole. Its a straightforward par 3 that we measured as 164 to the pin. The green is fronted by a bunker, which was directly in front of the pin. Hitting last in our foursome, with none of the others on or even really close to the green, I pulled my 712 AP-2 5-iron and hit my shot of the day. The ball never left the pin, landing just over the bunker, bouncing directly toward the pin, and disappearing. When we reached the green, there was no ball visible on the green or just off the back. One of my playing partners looked in the hole and saw my Team Titleist Pro V1 at the bottom of the cup. We were ecstatic and stopped for photos, even calling a member of the trailing group up to the green to witness the ace. The real topper was that every par 3 at the scramble had a prize for an ace. No, I did not win the car (different hole), but my much more modest, non-golf prize will come my way in couple of weeks. Have never had that experience before, nor have I witnessed an ace that won a prize. Our final hole was a bit anti-climatic, to say the least.
