I was playing in my first regional event in the USKids Golf Regional Event at Jekyll Island, GA. I reached hole 14 (my 5th hole of the day) at 2 over par score to that point. I had missed some easy birdies up to that point, but also had some sloppy bogies in 2 of the first 4 holes. Up to this point, I was hitting the ball good, just wasn't chipping and putting like I normally do.
We reach the 14th tee box. My dad shoots the distance with the range finder and hands me my gap wedge. He didn't tell me the distance, just that it's the perfect club for this. I needed something to go right for me I thought. I took my swing, made good contact, and the ball goes perfectly straight. High loft.....and "clank"....and it disappears. Everyone was cheering, I turned around and put my hands up in the air. Gave my dad a hug, and I was so excited. I was overwhelmed with emotions. My entire Mommy, Daddy, Poppy, Mommom, and brother were all there to see. It was a cool moment I'll never forget.
When we got back to the clubhouse after the round, a tour pro stopped by and congratulated me. It was a cool day!
