Keith Ferguson - First hole in one after playing 49 years
By KFerguson On 27 January 2019
Finally, after many near misses, on a fair weather day on January 8, 2019, I made my first hole in one at Providence Golf Course in Richmond, VA. It was on hole # 11, slightly uphill par 3, into the wind, with the pin on the top tier near the very back of the green. The distance to the pin was 163 yards. It was late in the afternoon and the sun was in my eyes as I set up on the tee. I struck the Taylor made 5-iron solidly, but lost the shot in the sun. As I approached the green, I looked just off the green on the left and back sides, but saw no signs of the yellow Titleist AVX 3 ball. One of the player in my foursome checked the cup and pointed down into the hole. I felt he had to kidding me. Then he lifted the yellow Titleist AVX 3 ball up, and I knew he was not joking. I was shocked but delighted. I almost teed off with the ball on the next hole, a par 5 which requires a drive over a pond. But right before setting up, I switched balls so I could preserve the ball which gave me the first hole in one.
